Not too long ago we were on the road with the 2017 Honda Civic Hatchback LX. It was definitely a fun ride and brought back all sorts of childhood memories for Tamara because her family owned a Honda Civic for years when she was younger. If you love small and sporty, the Honda Civic is definitely one you should be looking into.
Upon seeing the Honda Civic Hatchback when we picked it up was that the shape reminded us instantly of the Subaru Impreza hatchback. For us, this isn’t a problem because we love the look of that vehicle and we both really like the look of hatchbacks. It is definitely a sporty looking vehicle with its aluminium-alloy wheels and spoiler on the back. This is not the car you want for taking kids in car seats around in. It is a fun option if you’re looking for a smaller second vehicle.
One of our favourite things about Honda vehicles lately is the econ mode button and eco-assist system. With how much gas is costing to fill vehicles lately, this makes a huge difference. With the trip out to Harrison and back again it only cost $10 to top up the tank. Impressive considering it was over 200km of driving. Being able to cut the cost of gas is a big selling point for us. We always put the econ mode button to use when driving.
One thing that we always look for when we’ve tried out different vehicles is for if there is a way to block the view into the trunk/storage space. In our Honda CRV we have a hard divider in the back that separates it into two sections. The Honda CRV Hatchback-LX has a soft, retractable cargo cover. Perfect to pull out if you want to keep things out of sight, or leave it retracted in order to load larger items. This is one thing we pretty much consider a must in a vehicle if you can see in through the rear window.
There is something that we would love to see changed when it comes to small, sporty vehicles like this. That is the fact that it always feels like you are directly seated on the ground while driving. We are not huge on the low seating position of the driver. It may have been fine when we first got our drivers licenses or into our early 20s but as we get older it feels awkward to get in and out of the vehicle. Be sure to make sure that you have good visibility throughout the vehicle, you may need to raise the seat up a fair bit.
All around, the Honda Civic Hatchback LX is great. There’s a lot of technology packed into this vehicle from Apple car play to multi-angle rearview camera. Plus, Honda is keeping their drivers safer with things like Honda Laneswitch blind spot display and other Honda Sensing technologies. The amount of thought that has been put into this vehicle by Honda is very evident.
The Honda Civic Hatchback LX starts at $23,085.

We love Honda and truly feel it’s one of the safest cars out there! About more than 3 years ago I had a bad car accident involving 3 cars and then myself and although my Honda Accord was completely gone I walked away completely okay. Now we have a Honda Pilot since it’s best for a family of 5 like us. And I love it!
