We’ve attended Bright Nights in Stanley Park for years. If you’ve been following Discovering Parenthood since the start you know we go every year and that I have gone since I was a little girl. It’s so much fun to now be attending this as a Christmas tradition with my own girls. I wanted to share some of the reason’s why we love it, but then I thought it would be interesting to see what Evie thinks. I wanted to know why Bright Nights is a favourite for her at Christmas time.
Evie’s 4 Reasons She Loves Bright Nights
- Going on a train ride. This answer was kind of obvious. Evie’s always loved trains so this part made it an instant hit for her. If you have a little one that adores trains even just a smidgen they will enjoy seeing the mini trains at Bright Nights. Kids and kids at heart love seeing the miniature train.
- The bridge and tunnel. These were always a highlight for me as a kid so I love that they are for Evie too. She’s a kid after my own heart. While going along the tracks the train comes to a tunnel and as you go through images are painted onto the walls that glow thanks to black lights. We’ve seen Rudolph, Charlie Brown and Friends, and so much more painted on the walls of the tunnel. The big highlight though is the bridge. It’s spectacular seeing all the lights reflected on the water as you go across a little trestle bridge. This year Evie loudly proclaimed with a gasp “Oh Mama, it’s so beautiful!”.
- POPCORN! Yes, this answer was said with a loud voice and a whole lot of enthusiasm. There is some amazing organic popcorn for sale at Bright Nights. Forget movie popcorn, once you have tried this you’ll want it every time you go. Evie happily carried around a bag of it after our train ride while we looked at all the light displays. If you are going to Bright Nights, bring some change with you and get a tasty treat to share.
- The lights, all the lights, and Polar Express was playing. When a place has millions of twinkling lights you definitely take notice. I’ll always remember the first time Evie saw the lights when she was almost one, her eyes pretty much popped out of her head. There was a permanent twinkle in her eyes thanks to looking at the lights. Evie has always loved going for walks to look at the lights in our neighbourhood, so seeing that many and so many incredible displays all in one spot is a dream come true for her. This year she also loved that there was a little Polar Express display with the movie playing.
My favourite though is that we always go as a family. This is one holiday activity that we try to always do with Aunties, Uncles, Grand Parents, and anyone else who wants to join us. The more the merrier and having family around just helps make the Christmas memories even better.Just be sure to get there in time for your train slot, thanks to it being darker earlier out you can get tickets for an earlier train ride too so that your littles are not going to bed too late.
