During Spring Break we went on a quick, family road trip to Seattle. It’s definitely not the first time we’ve gone and it likely won’t be the last. If we’re ever looking for an easy to plan getaway, this is our go to. The drive is just over 2 hours, plus whatever the border lineup wait time is. There is lots to explore, see, do and tons of food options.
Keeping things simple and sharing a little glimpse at our recent trip.
MEXICAN FOOD IN SEATTLE
Driving down we checked into the tiny home we were staying at for the night to unpack the car and get settled in and unpack. Everyone was hangry and in need of a late lunch, early dinner. My husband had found out about a Mexican Restaurant that had a happy hour menu and we decided to go there. It’s called El Camino. The food did not disappoint. It was so good! We probably could have gone with ordering just one kid’s menu meal for the girls to share. It worked out though because Jason and I finished what they didn’t eat. I actually wish we had tried more things off of the menu there.
After having dinner we did go for a little walk down by a river to see some of the bridges in the area. We passed by a Google building and saw a lot of rowing teams out on the water practicing. This was something totally new to the girls, they loved watching the boats racing up and down the river. After a busy day, we decided to go back to the tiny house and have a quiet night in. We had picked up some food at Target for a second dinner or late night snack, plus we needed breakfast and lunch for the next day. We played a few board games and watched a show as a family before calling it a night and going to bed early.
A 5 HOUR WALK AROUND THE ZOO
Going to the Woodland Park Zoo is always a request we get from the girls when we go to Seattle. We decided to go again thanks to having a coupon in our entertainment book. I didn’t pack the stroller this time and I kind of regretted that decision. It is a lot of walking to get around the whole zoo. Considering we tend to average 4 or more hours at the zoo, we decided to rent a double stroller for our time there. Best decision and I would do it again instantly. The girls were able to get up and walk around or roll if they wanted to.
We ended up being at the zoo for over 5 hours. Even then, we didn’t see everything the zoo had because some sections were closed while we were there. It’s interesting to go with the girls and hear all the inquiries about animals. I also strongly suggest not putting your kids in charge of the map, or if you do… make sure you have two so they are not arguing over the one.
CHECKING OUT PIKE PLACE MARKET
The last time we went to Pike Place Market, my oldest daughter wasn’t even a year old yet. I have been wanting to go back since then. In order to find parking, we head to the Target that is there and it has never been an issue. The catch, in order to get a discount on parking there you need to make a minimum purchase at Target. No problem, we were planning to go shopping there anyways and pick up some things to take home.
I love seeing all the flower booths in the market, I only wish that we could actually take some of the beautiful flowers home with us. The girls loved this too. Plus, you can’t miss the fish market and the flying fish being tossed around. One place I have still yet to go into is the original Starbucks location, this time the line wasn’t too bad but there was no way the girls were going to wait. They wanted to keep walking around.
We did make it over to the infamous gum wall. Evie described it as disgusting. Addie asked if she could have gum. I kind of wish we had brought some so the girls could add a piece. I did notice that it didn’t smell like the last time we were there. Previously, it was so unberable I could hardly stand to be in the alley. This time, there was no smell.
