To my girls,
I knew right away when I was pregnant with each of you, that I was going to have daughters. Call it a motherly hunch. My oldest, I hoped and prayed for a redhead. My youngest I prayed for a calm child. My prayers were answered in each of you and then some.
You two are my greatest challenge and my biggest blessing. No one ever warned me just how challenging being a parent would be. Some days I feel like a complete failure and can only ask for your forgiveness as we learn and grow together on this journey as a family.
Part of the challenge is that you both remind me so much of myself. You are each stubborn and strong-willed in your own way. Your Dad will tell you, that you get that from me. This can be an incredible thing. I hope these are qualities that see you move mountains as you get older.
RAISE YOUR WORDS NOT YOUR VOICE. IT IS RAIN THAT GROWS FLOWERS NOT THUNDER. – Rumi
There are days that I want to go back to when you were newborns, but is it ever incredible to see you grow up, learn and discover so much about the world around you. It amazes me how inquisitive each of you is. Evie, you are creative and love to draw but also have a mind for numbers. It’s interesting seeing such opposite traits combined with you. Your memory is remarkable, often you recall things I’ve forgotten about. Addie, you are just starting to show so much more of who you are. When you love something or someone it is known. Your love is big! You are very observant, taking in everything around you. You are also very mechanical minded, wanting to know how things work.
As you girls grow up, I hope that you know I will always be there for you. Through the good, the bad, the hard, and the problems. I may not be able to fix everything that happens, nor do I want to because you need to learn from your mistakes too. I hope you know that I will be right there by your side. You will not be alone.
I hope that you look back on your childhood as you get to grow up and see that our home is filled with love. Your Dad and I love you both so much. Our feisty little redhead, and fierce little pixie. I look forward to seeing you two grow day by day. I think about what you will be like as teens and even adults. I am so thankful that you two are part of my life.
I’ll love you forever, to the moon and back!
