WOULD YOU GO FOR A POLAR PLUNGE?
If you asked me in 2022 if I would ever do a polar plunge, polar swim, cold dip, or whatever you want to call it the answer would have been an immediate no.
I have joined a group taking part in what’s called 100 Days to Slay. Basically we’re all committed to spending 30 minutes each day doing something for ourselves like going for a walk, working out, stretching, etc. A group of people all went out to Cultus Lake on January 1st and did a polar plunge. It didn’t even cross my mind to go and take part.
Then the photos and video clips started rolling in and I had some serious regret in not taking part.
A SECOND CHANCE TO GO
A friend through the joys of blogging and Instagram, Connie, shared that she and some friends were going to go again. Check our Connie’s Instagram here. I had messaged her moments before saying maybe next year I would join in and then she invited others to join on her next Instagram story. I quickly asked Jason if I could go. He was shocked and said yes. So I ended up messaging Connie back within minutes saying “count me in”.
I have no idea what overcame me to even consider it. But I made the hour drive out to Cultus Lake and took part in a much smaller polar plunge. The drive out was beautiful with a spectacular sunrise. I almost wish we had met a bit earlier so we could go in while the sun was rising (maybe next year?). Going in form the beach we realized there were two dead fish carasses right on the waters edge. You can actually see one in the photo above. In the video we took you can hear us all screaming and freaking out when we realized. We shuffled over and quickly headeded into the cold water.
It was after going in that I remembered that lake is glacier fed. No wonder it was so cold! I also have learnt that I need a pair of Crocs to wear in sport mode. The rocks were very slippery. Going into a glacier fed lake in January is still ridiculous in my books, but it was definitely refreshing and I will be going again. I was so thankful to have my fleece lined Tofinio Towel blanket as that helped me to warm up quickly. At home I had filled a hot water bottle to bring in a cooler bag, but I forgot it at the door. Next year I’ll be better prepared.
