For my 28th birthday yesterday I didn’t want to do anything big, no huge party or going out for a fancy dinner. I just wanted to relax, and enjoy a hot drink. Life is busy with our oldest in preschool, and now having a newborn. Plus, my husband goes back to work after this week so I really just wanted to have a moment to enjoy my little family before we shift they dynamics again of our little family.
My husband booked us in to enjoy high tea as a family at TracyCakes Bakery Cafe in Langley. I’ve always wanted to do something like this, so going for tea was perfect. Evie is also the perfect, fun age to start doing things like this. After picking her up from preschool in the morning, we all got dressed up a bit and headed out for tea. Evie was so excited to put on her fancy dress and headband, I think her enthusiasm made us all look forward to this even more.
The staff were wonderful, and very accommodating right away. Since Jason had made a reservation our table was all set, and ready for us… high chair included… as soon as we walked in the doors. I loved how bright it was in there thanks to the big store front windows, and all of the antique items displayed around the cafe. It was gorgeous in there. I felt like a little girl again, getting to enjoying a tea party.
We got to enjoy all sorts of mini sandwiches, quiches, veggie rolls, scones, and more. Evie spotted the cupcakes as soon as we entered and was requesting a pink cupcake instantly. Thankfully the staff overheard and made sure there was a pink cupcake on the very top tray, placed high on a little egg cup for Evie to enjoy when she was ready. I will always remember the smile on her face when she saw that.
Now I cannot forget the actual tea part. We all got to select what tea we would like to enjoy. I cannot remember the exact name of the one Jason picked, but it was a nice mint one. I selected a vanilla bean tea, and oh was it ever lovely. I actually spotted the tea for sale later on during out tea and I plan on going back to pick some up so that I can enjoy it again at home. Evie was thrilled to get her own little tea cup, and tea pot. Her tea pot was filled with apple juice. We were amazed at how well she did with sipping her “tea”, she didn’t spill one single drop on her fancy dress.
All around, it was the perfect relaxing afternoon I needed with my family. I got to sit down and chat with my husband, watch my oldest daughter’s eyes sparkle as she enjoyed her first real tea party, I had cuddles with Addie while she slept through my little birthday party, and I actually enjoyed a hot cup of tea!
