Summer break is well underway, July is almost over! We recently had the opportunity to go hang out at Playland, which is an amusement park out in Vancouver. This was all thanks to my brother-in-law his company was hosting a family day there. We knew it was going to be a funfilled afternoon.
THERE ARE RIDES FOR ALMOST EVERYONE
We were not certain how many rides would be possible for the girls to go on. We were pleasantly surprised to find that there were all sorts of fun things for kids to do! Now, I would encourage you to check the heights of your children and check out the rides section on the Playland website. If your child is under 36″ there is not much for them to do and you may be better off waiting to visit until they are taller.
Our girls were thrilled to go on the Super Slide, Tea Cups, Cap’n KC, and several others. Most of the ones they liked were essentially different variations on a carousel with the kids riding in different buggies that go round and round. Our oldest was able to go on a few bigger rides with an adult going with her, like the Sea to Sky Swinger. Thankfully my husband was the brave parent to go with her for those!
WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN PLANNING A DAY AT PLAYLAND
Kids 3 and under are free to go into Playland and on rides. Junior (under 48″) One Day tickets are $26 online and One Day (48″ and taller) tickets are $36 online. If you buy your tickets at the gate you will find you are paying a few dollars more. Plan ahead and purchase your tickets before going! You’ll also want to take into account that the majority of parking in the area is pay parking. Each lot seems to have a different price too.
Be sure to pack water, snacks, and sunscreen if you’re going to be spending the day there. We put sunscreen on before going and while there and we all ended up with some sun. There is very little shade so you’ll find the need for water and sunscreen to be very high. There are all sorts of food available within the parks, just be ready for amusement park prices. There’s the classic mini donuts and lemonade which are a must in our books.
Since we were attending a family day event thanks to the company my brother-in-law works for, we felt absolutely spoiled. The company very kindly provided entry for all of us and then hosted a lovely bbq later on a lawn space. There were bubbles, balloon animals and face painting for all of the kids. While I don’t understand why kids love face painting so much, this was an absolutely hit and it was fun to see all the kids running around with different things on their faces. Our girls went with a cat and snowflakes. I don’t know who provided the food, whether it was part of something Playland offered, but the food was fantastic!
We can’t thank the company my brother-in-law works for enough. We were all well fed and thoroughly enjoyed our time at Playland and hanging out with everyone. It was a very fun family day. The girls are already asking if we can go back because they would like to go on more rides. It may become a new tradition for us each summer.
Have you been to Playland or is there an amusement park near you that you love to visit with your family?
