Once you have kids, sleep becomes a thing of the past. You thought you knew exhaustion before. Children take that to a whole new level. Add in all the other everyday factors that can impact sleep and sometimes, all mom wants for Mother’s Day is a nap or a good nights sleep! We recently traveled to Victoria and stayed at Hotel ZED for a little getaway as a family. Plus, this Mom got the chance to rest up.
It had been years since the last time I’d been to Victoria and the time before that was in middle school. Visiting the capital was long overdue and we were looking forward to taking the girls. We wanted to go check out the parliament building and just do a little sightseeing. We knew there was no way we could go everywhere we wanted, but we still made the most of our trip. Stay tuned for another blog post about where we went and what we got up to as a family.

A PLACE FOR REBELS AGAINST THE ORDINARY, WHO LOVE RETRO-CHIC
We had no clue what to truly expect when we got to Hotel ZED. We knew it would be colourful and that there were some retro vehicles. As soon as we pulled up the girls spotted the purple Zedinator water slide. There was no missing it. We knew that swimming was going to be a must. Thankfully, we packed swim gear.
You also can’t miss the bikes hanging on the side of Hotel ZED. We quickly found out that you can actually borrow them for free to help get around town. Jason took the opportunity to go for a bike ride first thing in the morning, the next day. We do recommend getting a bike early as they do get booked quickly when the weather is great.
I was so thankful to learn that my girls are not the only ones who tend to jump on hotel beds. Why is this? Maybe it’s because they are not allowed to at home. We all liked the simple but fun styling of the hotel room. Evie wanted to bring home the funky clock, even though she can’t tell time yet.
Within the same building as the lobby for Hotel ZED, is The Ruby. When we were looking for family-friendly places to eat at in Victoria, this place kept getting mentioned. You better believe we were thrilled we did not have to go far to get there. It has a great homestyle vibe to it, The Rube is serving up incredible food that will remind you of the best home-cooked meal you’ve ever had. We went for breakfast there and it quickly became our favourite place we’ve gone to for the first meal fo the day. Whatever you do, get something with the hash browns. You will not want to share them, though if you bring the kids with be prepared to do so.
Leaving after just two days in Victoria has us wanting to go back soon. We know that the next time we go, we’ll definitely be staying at Hotel ZED again. It was very family friendly. The room was great. The pool was perfect. Next time, we might see about booking the ZEDstream… the renovated Airstream that they have! It’s got all the fun of the usual hotel rooms packed inside.
PS… You can go over to their Facebook page and enter a Mom who you thinks deserves to win a one night stay at Hotel ZED in Victoria or Kelowna! The winner will also the opportunity to receive free childcare onsite from 4-8pm. This means that while the kids are off having fun at a pizza party and playing games with certified nannies, Mom can have an uninterrupted, or perhaps go out for a meal without interruptions for another glass of milk to go with dinner. Tell me I’m not the only one that happens to? Then, enjoy the rest of Hotel ZED as a family. The pool area is a must! Be sure to go nominate someone, we all know a Mom who would love to win this!
