Things have been a little rough around here lately. It’s why I have not been posting so much on the blog. It’s why I haven’t done as many posts on our NYC trip as I want to. Honestly, cold and flu season this winter has kicked us in the butt. Or should I say sinuses, ears, lungs, and stomach? We have been rotating through the house for who is sick when.
A few days ago we were going to go out but just didn’t feel up to it and we missed one of the most beautiful sunsets. This sunset was popping up all over our social media channels. It was like the weather was taunting us to go outside and about the fact we were sick in bed. While at work I texted my husband to round up the girls’ beach bucket and muddy buddies so that we could go to the beach. This was my attempt to be spontaneous and skip bedtime!
MY FAVOURITE COLOUR IS SUNSET
Sorry to all my friends and family in all the provinces east of us in BC. We are having some crazy mild winter weather. This actually wasn’t the first time we’ve taken the girls to the beach in the winter. Sure it’s a bit chilly out, but there really is something magical about that ocean air and the waves crashing on the shore.
Even the girls noticed a difference in how they felt while being at the beach. They were commenting on how they could breathe better within minutes of us being there. Add in the joy on their faces as they got to play. It made the crazy idea of going to the beach in the evening completely worth it.
I loved that we also weren’t the only ones there. We saw several other parents with their kids dressed in muddy buddies and rain boots. Maybe, secretly, all of us parents were hoping the fresh air would help the kids sleep better that evening? PS: It worked!
CHASING AFTER THE SUN
Don’t ever hesitate to spend some time with your kids. It’s okay to go ahead, be spontaneous, and skip bedtime. Normally I am a stickler for the bedtime routine and getting the girls to bed on time. Not this night. In my heart, I knew we all needed something different. Something out of our usual routine. We needed to get out of the house and just go have some fun making memories and watching the sun set.
