When I realized that Beauty and the Beast was celebrating its 25th anniversary and would be releasing a special edition of the film, I was ridiculously excited. I also suddenly felt a bit old… I’m almost 29! This is one of my all time favourite movies from Disney because it does bring back so many memories from my childhood. Now I get to share the movie with my girls and make new memories with them.
The beloved animated classic has truly stood the test of time and now a whole new generation of viewers are invited to be our guest and fall in love with this enchanting tale, its captivating charactersand unforgettable, award-winning music score and original song, “Beauty and the Beast.”
The Walt Disney Signature Collection edition features four versions of “Beauty and the Beast.” TheBlu-ray release will include the original theatrical film; an extended version with the “Human Again” song sequence and a never-before-released on home entertainment sing-along version. If by chance you do not know the storyline for Beauty and the Beast it is about a young prince who ends up being cursed and turned into the beast. He must learn to love and be loved in order for the curse to be broken. Belle, a young girl who lives in a small provincial French town, finds herself fighting off the unwanted affections of Gaston. Due to her father taking a wrong turn while on his way to another town, he ends up being held as a prisoner in the Beast’s castle. Belle offers herself as a prisoner, in exchange for her father’s release. Thanks to the help of the castle’s enchanted staff Belle draws the Beast out of the shadows. Does the curse on the Beast end up being broken? Well, you will have to watch to find out.
With our recent trip to Disneyland, we watched Beauty and the Beast for family movie night. It left our oldest daughter having the whole story line and all of the characters embedded in her memory. On our first day in the park, she spotted a gentleman walking with a whole lot of swagger from far off. Immediately she started calling out “Mommy! IT’S GASTON!”. She was so thrilled to meet this character in person, we were all thrilled as he is a recent addition to the park characters. We also made sure to hang out with Chip and talk about everything from sleeping in cupboards to what tea is best. It’s safe to say that Beauty and the Beast is now a favourite for my daughters too.
If you do not already own Beauty and the Beast in your Disney collection, or you are like me and only had the VHS version for the longest time, you will want to get this. I really appreciate that on this anniversary edition of the film there is the original theatrical version, the special edition that contains an addition song, and a sing-along version. That’s three version of the movie in one!
Beauty and the Beast will surely become a family favourite, especially if you have little ones that love princesses.
