Babies grow and you find yourself needing another car seat. Perhaps you child’s grandparents would like to have a car seat so they can easily transport the grandkids around without doing the car seat shuffle. Either way, you’ll come to a point when you need another car seat. We recently had the opportunity to try a Britax Allegiance Convertible Car Seat.
ABOUT THE BRITAX ALLEGIANCE FROM BRITAX ESSENTIALS
The Britax Allegiance is a Convertible Car Seat from the Essentials by Britax which is the new, everyday value brand. The Allegiance car seat can be used with a child from newborn to forward facing. This is thanks to the 10-Position Harness that adjusts easily for a growing baby. I was surprised at the weight of this car seat not because it was overly heavy, but because it was a manageable weight. It comes in at under 20lbs. Right away I knew this seat would be an easy option for moveability between vehicles.
As a parent, I always want to know about the safety features of a car seat. Safety is something that Britax is well known for and understands that safety is a top priority for parents. The Allegiance has SafeCell Impact protection, which is a patented system of safety features designed to help shield a child safe in the event of a crash occurring. SafeCell Impact Protection works to direct forces from a crash away from the child. This includes an impact absorbing base that compresses during a collision to absorb impact, an energy absorbing tether to minimize seat rotation and an impact stabilizing steal frame for absorbing crash impact and seat stability. The Allegiance also has a deep foam-lined shell to provide side impact protection

PRECIOUS CARGO IN THE VEHICLE
There were things we loved immediately with the Britax Allegiance. One of those things was the LATCH connectors for locking the car seat into place with just a click. This also makes the car seat easy to remove with just a push of a button. Having these in a car seat makes installation so much easier. I just clicked the seat into place and pulled to tighten. What got me a bit flustered, was the V-shaped tether that’s meant to reduce seat rotation and for slowing forward motion in a crash when a child is forward facing. This feature had my husband and I a bit unsure as we set to figuring out how to get it to lengthen so we could connect it to the anchor point in the back of the car.
Between the LATCH connectors and the v-shaped tether, once we got that sorted, we were impressed with how solid of an install we got. The car seat definitely met the requirements for a good install. As with any car seat, be sure to follow the instructions carefully for installation. If needed, seek assistance from the company or a car seat tech.
There are several different fabric styles, we went with the Prism design because we loved that it was fun but still a great neutral. The fabric is removable for spot cleaning without having to remove the harness. As a parent of a toddler, I do wish that the cover was machine washable. We’ve all had that moment when the cover of a car seat seems like it may never be the same. Having the ease of being able to toss it in the washine machine makes a huge difference for cleanups.
My toddler was instantly taken with the Britax Allegiance. She wanted to sit in it as soon as we got it out of the box. Once it was installed in the vehicle she wanted to climb in immediately. One of the questions I always ask her when she is in a car seat is “Are you comfy?” because I know that the safety belts can pull on her hair, or be to snug on the skin of her neck and collarbone. She beat me to giving me an answer to this question before I could even ask. Right away I heard her little voice proclaim “MAMA! I’m so comfy! Let’s drive.” This car seat had her seal of approval. After driving with her in it, there were no marks left from the safety belts, which was nice to see.
The Britax Allegiance will for sure be our go-to car seat for rides in the grandparent’s vehicle and so much more. If you are looking for a car seat that can go from refacing with a newborn to forward facing for a toddler, preschooler or even a Kindergartener you’ll want to check out this seat. Maybe you’re like us and were on the hunt for another car seat, go check out the Britax Allegiance.
