LET’S GO CAMPING
Summer is officially over this week, it’s about time I share how camping with kids at Tuc-el-Nuit went. Last summer we started going to The Lakeside Resort again. It’s become a tradition to go camping as a family each summer and I love that our girls are a part of that tradition now.
This week away camping was very different from last summer and that was mostly because of the wildfires burning in British Columbia. The sky was full of smoke and some points during the days we had ash falling down on us. The first few days were also incredibly windy, making it very cold out.
Despite the weather, we still had a great time camping in Oliver and are already planning to go back. The girls have been asking since we returned home “How long till we get to go camping again?”. We may need to actually do a weekend camping trip somewhere.
SWIM IN THE LAKE AND EAT S’MORES
This lake is one of my favourites that we have visited. The biggest thing is that the girls can wear their puddle jumpers, go in the water and swim a bit but stand up easily. It is shallow for a decent portion out from shore. The beach is also perfect for making sand castles, which was done every time they had the chance.
With the fire ban, we were still able to use a propane fire pit. This allowed us to have a source of warmth in the morning and evening when it was chilly out. The girls got to try making s’more for the first time. We learned that one of them hates s’mores and the other loves them!
We also made sure to get some local treats by driving over to Tickleberry’s for the biggest kids cone we’ve ever seen. As well as grabbing coffee and donuts from a local place not far from the campsite. Getting donuts is definitely going to become a new part of the camping tradition.
MAKING MEMORIES ONE CAMPSITE AT A TIME
While we might not be tenting it, actually my mom and sister did, we were definitely still making memories. We are technically “glamping” while staying here because we rent one of the cabanas, but it’s what works best for our family at this stage. Maybe one summer we’ll go wild and buy the massive family tent at Costco. For now, the cabana is where it’s at. We had beds to sleep in, a fridge, electricity and running water. With kids, it makes it a little easier on us.
Next summer… we’ll just be sure not to forget the bathroom bags. The replacement toothbrushes I bought lit up! Anyone else always forget to pack something when traveling?

I think this is more the kind of camping I can get behind. Donuts! Now that I’m *such* an experienced camper, maybe I’m ready to bring the family along. ๐

Oh no about forgetting the bathroom bags! Lol totally something I would do too. I love that the ones you picked up lit up, I want one! We tried camping for the first time this year with the kids and we can’t wait for next Summer to go again. ๐
