Baby wearing is something I have always loved doing. I wore my oldest in all sorts of wraps and carriers when she was little. I really appreciated the convenience of a fabric wrap, but I had some issues with the ones I owned. They were too hot, not stretchy enough, or too short when I was told they would be long enough. I was not going to let that experience get me down because I knew I wanted to baby wear with my second daughter as soon as possible. Beluga Baby came to my help.
The lovely Hayley is the owner and developer of Beluga Baby wraps. One thing I love, besides her awesome sense of humour and total understanding of my mommy brain while we were talking back and forth about her wraps, is that she is local! Hayley is in the Vancouver area, and this for me is huge. If you’ve followed my blog for some time now you would know I love when there is opportunity for me to shop local and support small businesses. She came up with the idea for her baby wraps thanks to the desire to stay close to her baby, Sawyer, and when she was met with the need to go back to work. She decided to challenge herself and started Beluga Baby around the same time her daughter was born back in March of 2015. Hayley saw a need for something to help new moms, and went to work creating an incredible baby wrap!
As soon as the wrap arrived at my door in the gorgeous The Laura, a denim like blue I already started noticing a difference between it, and the wraps I already had. You cannot miss how incredible the fabric feels. The wraps are all made from an incredibly soft bamboo cotton blend fabric. A huge issue I had previously was overheating in my wraps. Just think, if you are too hot in your wrap it is very likely that your baby is also overheating too. This fabric is breathable, and feels light weight. Neither you or baby will feel too hot in this wrap!
The fabric also has the perfect amount of stretch in it. Now, my first question to Hayley was “But is it long enough for me?” I was asking this because with being considered plus size I have had issues with carriers and wraps. I’ve needed to buy extender belts, or order extra length on my wraps. It’s okay, I get it, I am not average size. I want to know though that the wrap will fit around me, and my baby. She was very quick to inform me that it would, and I’d have just the right amount of length to tie it. I was floored when I was able to wrap it around me the exact same way as shown in the Beluga Baby tutorials. I was sure I’d have to tie it in the back, and that I wouldn’t be able to tie it in the front under my daughter’s bottom. I actually quickly realized that I needed to pull my wrap a bit more snug, and I had more fabric to wrap. For my fellow parents who are wondering if it will fit them too I most often wear an XL shirt right now, and well lets be honest I am blessed in the chest and then some thanks to my milk supply. If you are still worried… email me I will give you my exact measurements even.
Wearing my daughter is so special. You feel instantly connected. Plus I am pretty certain that Hayley is part fairy as these wraps must be sprinkled with magic pixie dust because Addie falls asleep almost instantly in it every time! This is a huge help if she is fussy, and refusing to nap. I get her into the wrap and she starts to calm down. Being so close to my heart its a natural white noise, and is a comforting sound that she heard for so long while I carried her inside me. I’ve worn Addie while walking to the park near road noise, in the mall where it is incredibly noisy and sounds are ever changing and nothing woke this girl up until she was good, and ready because of being hungry or needing a diaper change.
Honestly, I cannot express how much I love seeing my daughter all snug in the wrap. Plus she is always kissing distance away from me so I get to smother her little cheeks and the top of her head with kisses whenever I want.
I am not the only one who baby wears in our family. My husband is also quick to grab the wrap and use it with Addie. He’s actually received several double takes when he’s taken both of our daughter’s out on his own and is seen wearing Addie in the wrap. People are surprised to see that. Really they shouldn’t be. Dad’s shouldn’t get weird looks or comments when baby wearing. Dad’s aren’t babysitters, they parent and raise their children too. The best comment he’s ever overheard though was when someone was overheard asking “Why does that guy have one boob?” and my husband was quick to reply that there was a baby in there. I laughed a lot when he told me that story. Using a wrap is a great way for both parents to feel connected to their baby. Bring it to the hospital, and use it during skin to skin time.
This wrap has been an incredible help. I am able to have my hands free when with both my daughters. My youngest is carried near to me and feels safe and secure in the wrap, but I can also play with my oldest, read her stories, and so much more. It also has saved my bacon when I need to get dinner made and my daughter will not have anything to do with even the idea of me putting her down. It’s also been a life saver when I am wanting to get blog posts and photo editing done. Into the wrap she goes, and we are both happy.
I will be using this wrap over and over again. The wrap is suitable for up to 25lbs, so I know I’ve got several more months to go of using this wrap. My daughter is comfy in it, and I am comfortable wearing her in it. A little bonus is that it folds up nice and small into a little square pocket that is built into the wrap. Just toss it in the diaper bag, and go! It has also come to the rescue when I have forgotten a nursing cover, or needed something to cover the infant car seat when it’s been popped into the stroller. I’ve put it over the top, and it helps make a nice dark environment for baby to rest in.
Hayley has very kindly offered Discovering Parenthood readers a code for free shipping in Canada and the USA. Use the code VANCITY at checkout. If you are expecting, or know someone who is go get one of these! I cannot sing the praises of this baby wrap enough. It’s become my favourite fabric wrap. Be sure to also follow Beluga Baby on Instagram and Facebook. You just never know what, or who might pop up on there.
Do you baby wear your little one, how much do you love it?

This looks like a fantastic wrap! I on occasion wear my 2-year-old, but it’s not the same as it was when she was a tiny infant. My favorite was using our fabric wrap, but it was in the middle of winter in Boston and that wrap would not have worked in the warmer months. This sounds like a great option for when I have another baby!

I absolutely love soft wraps like this one! Do you know if they make these capable of carrying twins?
discoveryparent says
I was messaging the owner of Beluga Baby about this. The main concern is safety. While you may be able to fit two very small twins in there the concern is their chin location and being able to breathe properly. I’d personally feel much safer having one in a wrap, and wearing them separately.

That wrap looks awesome. You little girl looks so comfortable and cozy. Plus, the color is stunning. I wish mine were still little enough for one.

I’m hoping to use this til she hits the weight limit. I love it so much.

That material looks really soft. Your baby looks so cozy and happy!

She loves it in there, and the fabric is so soft. I want tshirts made of the same material.

I loved wearing my son but really struggled with finding a wrap that fit because I have narrow shoulders and am really short. My girlfriend did some digging and found a local place in Austin Texas that made them and gifted me one. It’s a one of a kind wrap designed for my body shape. It made baby wearing so effortless.

I truly does help when you find a wrap or carrier that works well for you.

I always had the hardest time getting my daughter in the wrap. I just never got the hang out of how to fold it… yours looks so nicely folded!

This one is crazy easy. Hayley did a great video tutorial for it on her companies page.

I love baby wearing too! Stretchy wraps are so amazing for those early months! I wonder if the Beluga Baby Wrap would still be supportive enough after baby exceeds 15 lbs. I know that’s when I’ve had to stop using a stretchy wrap in the past, but the fabric composition of the Beluga is different.

Hi Stefanie!
I’m Haley, founder of Beluga Baby. I still wear my Beluga Wrap with my 22 pound, eight month old daughter. In fact, I just wore her for three hours around Ikea yesterday! There are a couple of tricks for wrapping a larger baby, including wrapping tighter, making sure the fabric is all the way from knee to knee, and pulling the fabric down the shoulder for weight distribution. I would say it continues to be very comfortable up to 25 pounds, and then after that you’d be able to use it for short periods of time.
Thanks for asking.
xoxo

And Hayley beat me to it… she is the best! My daughter is pushing 13 pounds and I am still very comfortable wearing her in this wrap. I have used other wraps and like you had to stop at at a certain weight. So far so good with this one. The fabric is making a huge difference for me, and the reminder to wrap tight!

Regardless if I love babywearing or not, I think that wrap color is a fantastic one for you!!! The color is stunning… and makes babywearing look great 😉
Jennifer Corter says
I would love to baby wear with my next one! Never tried it with my first one.
Larissa says
I’m not huge on baby wearing. It just feels far too cumbersome on me, gets in the way of what I’m trying to do, and I also have a naturally sway back, so putting weight on my front just accentuates that. I love how cozy it looks for others though! We have an ergo, but Tim uses it mostly.

I think I waited too long to put mine in wraps and when I finally did they resisted. It would have saved my back and arms.
