While you are decorating the Christmas tree, and hanging the stockings by the fire with care you may be looking for some sort of holiday show or movie to have on in the background. Or perhaps its needed to distract the younger children so that they are not grabbing all of the breakable ornaments out of the boxes, or off the tree. Don’t worry, I get it as that will be the situation I am in this weekend when we get our live tree. I am going to be in “Operation: Keep Preschooler Busy”.
Netflix has sadly recently removed one of my favourite holiday movies, but lets not talk about that. I will get my spaghetti covered in maple syrup fix elsewhere. There are many great options still, and several have become new favourites for my family, and I.
For the younger kids I am would recommend:
Curious George: A Very Monkey Christmas
George and the Man in the Yellow Hat are having a merry time counting down to Christmas. Neither of them can decide though on what to give the other. You follow along as they try to figure out what to get as a gift for the other. George gets up to his usual antics.
Thomas & Friend: Merry Christmas Thomas
It’s a magical holiday special that has Thomas looking for the grandest tree in Sodor, and some of his friends are hoping for a winter wonderland.
For the older kids/tweens I would suggest:
Dreamwords: Happy Holidays from Madagascar
In this you want to watch Merry Madagascar which is about when Santa crashes into Madagascar and its up to the penguins, and Alex, Marty, Gloria, and Melvin to save Christmas. There is also another holiday episode in her, I’ll leave it for you to discover.
Dr. Seuss How the Grinch Stole Christmas
The tale of how the Grinch decided to take Christmas from every Who down in Whoville, but thanks to the kindness from Cindy Lou Who he finds his heart changes several sizes that day. Jim Carrey does a phenomenal job portraying the Grinch in this.

The Kranks are sick of all the holiday hype, and since their daughter is not home for Christmas they decide to go away instead and not take part in anything holiday related.
Now go pop some popcorn, grab a couple of your favourite Christmas movies and go enjoy a holiday show as a family, or as a couple this week. Also keep an eye out for a giveaway related to Netflix coming soon… if you do not have Netflix, you’ll want to enter for sure!

My 3 year old loves the Curious George Christmas! We watched it on PBS last year multiple times when we still had cable. She was pretty happy that I found it on Netflix.
We recently discovered that there’s lots of Curious George on Netflix so she’s been asking for that too.
