Disney On Ice is here in Vancouver for a four-day run at the Pacific Coliseum. If you’ve never been to a Disney On Ice show before, it’s a great family-friendly activity.
The show is called Mickey’s Search Party and it features the spirit realm of Coco in Miguel’s Disney On Ice debut. Other Disney characters seen within the immersive ice skating experience are ones from Beauty and the Beast, Toy Story, Moana, Aladdin, The Little Mermaid, and Frozen.
Our girls were very excited to go, especially since this was our youngest daughter’s first time going.
WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN YOU GO
We highly recommend that you arrive early at the venue where Disney On Ice is being hosted. Things can get a little busy when it comes to finding parking, plus getting through the doors. To ensure a fun night, plan accordingly. Find out when the doors open for your showtime, and arrive an thirty minutes to an hour before that.
Getting there for when the doors open also allows you time to wander and check out the merchandise that is available for purchase. There were stuffies, figurines, light up snowflake wands, and even bubble wands like you see in Disneyland!
If you’re wondering if you should dress up for Disney On Ice. Do it! It is part of the Disney magic seeing all the guests to the show dressed up as their favourite characters. Put on those Mickey ears. Pull out the princess dresses.
Our venue also had booster seats available at Guest Services. Since we were early, we were able to get two without a problem. My husband had to leave his drivers license to ensure the return of the seats. Have a booster seat helped the girls be up a little higher in the seats, just in case someone taller was in front of them.
The show itself runs between an hour and a half to two hours. It just depends on if things start on time and the intermission. We attended a 7 pm show and were out of the arena just after 9 pm. This is also in part to our waiting for the crowds to depart first. We were able to go to the washroom without too long of a line before making the drive home.
By the way… For you parents who like to plan. The intermission is after the Coco performance. Good to know if your little one needs you to make a mad dash to avoid a long washroom line during that time.
We shared previously a bit about the details for Disney On Ice: Mickey’s Search Party in Vancouver already. You can head over there if you are looking for more specific information.
GET READY TO GO ON A QUEST WITH MICKEY AND HIS FRIENDS
Captain Hook and his crew of pirates have captured Tinkerbell and taken away a magic wand. To release Tink from the lantern, Mickey and his friends form a search party. With the help of a treasure map, they are able to fill the magical search meter and release Tinkerbell. It is a simplistic tale, but Disney is able to weave together our favourite characters stories into Mickey’s Search Party.
Something new with this Disney On Ice show is the immersive experience. There are two hosts that take us on this search party with Mickey. It changes the Disney On Ice experience and was a highlight for us. The hosts were interacting with the audience and having them become a part of the show.
You may find yourself helping bounce a giant Pixar ball around the rink or playing on a guitar before the Coco performance. The hosts brought a unique dynamic to the whole show and we would love to see this continue in future Disney On Ice shows.
Part of what makes Disney On Ice so special is the theatrical talent within the show. Mickey’s Search Party is filled with amazing performances. You have talented figure skaters doing choreography, plus there are aerial stunts you do not want to miss out on. This is especially true during the Beauty and the Beaster performance when Belle takes to the sky in a soaring fountain-like performance.
You’ll also see acrobatics, adagio pair skating and even hoverboard tricks on the ice! Our kids couldn’t believe what the performers were capable of. There is so much talent within these cast members.
Each performance brings the movie to life in front of you. Coco was the most visually stunning with so much occurring on the ice. You cannot miss the two performers up on poles that are representative of Catrina of Dia de los Muertos. All of the ariel stunts take the performance from the ice to up in the air, filling the visual space so much more. With the release of Frozen 2, the whole Frozen performance captured our kid’s attention the most. They were completely captivated by it. The ice skaters doing all sorts of tricks were declared fearless by my youngest.
I will never forget the wonder in my kid’s eyes as they watched the show. Disney On Ice brings a little bit of Disney close to home. If you are looking for something with Disney magic to enjoy with your family, go to a Disney On Ice event near you!
