Back in December of 2015 an earthquake was a huge reality check for BC’s South Coast. The girls were in bed, Addie was only 2 months old and we had finally got her to sleep. We will always remember the shaking of our home. The magnitude of the earthquake ranged from 4.3 to 4.9. Many realized that they needed to take things seriously and get prepared for an emergency by having an Earthquake Kit in their home.
You think that would have gotten us in gear to have a kit. We did start to collect a few item but never had a complete kit with what we would need if a large quake struck again leaving us in need. Thankfully, friends introduced us to EarthquakeKit.ca This company has a goal of there being an Earthquake kit in every home in Bc. They are even going door to door in an effort to educate on the importance of having a kit.
EarthquakeKit.ca provided our family with a Deluxe 4 person 72hrs Backpack Earthquake Kit. Our first question when we received it was “Where should we keep the kit?” and we were informed that it’s best to keep it in a front closet where you can grab it in a hurry and get out. Another option is keeping it under a bed. People that live in a house should also try to keep the earthquake kit in a ground floor closet away from exterior walls. Ours will be going in the only closet we have on the ground floor.
The thing we noticed immediately about the earthquake kits is how well they are packed. Everything is organized efficiently so you know what is where inside of it. We loved seeing that a first aid kit was right there on the top when we opened one of the backpacks. These kits are truly more than just earthquake kits, they are emergency kits if something were to happen, they have what you need in them.

We definitely feel much more prepared for if something were to happen. We still have a few odds and ends to collect before our kit is 100% complete. Things like medication, diapers + wipes, clothing that for each family member, and a few other items that will be stocked together.
EarthquakeKit.ca has more than backpack kits for the family too. You can find food options, pet earthquake kits, earthquake kits for the car, fire ladders, and even a basic roadside emergency kit. It is evident that the people behind this company have put a lot of thought into what they provide.
One thing that we noted right away is that they are dedicated to their customer service. The company tracks the expiry date and will contact you when items need t be replaced. No need to replace the whole kit, just what has reached an expiry date. Order the kit you need online and you will either receive free hand delivery to your home or within 72 hours of placing an order, you will receive a personal call to inform you of the status of your delivery. The earthquake kit is shipped for free with tracking and should arrive within a week.

This is such an important thing to consider, especially living here on the West Coast! We bought kits a year or two ago and I definitely feel better knowing we have them just in case. Thanks for sharing about such an important topic.

I do not feel prepared for an earthquake. Having these basics would definitely bring piece of mind and a good starting place with few things left to add. I am impressed that there is a kit available for pets too. I had not thought of making sure I had things ready to grab and go other than the cat carrier. I am interested in the two-story escape ladder.

I often think that I need to put more efforts into this. I don’t have any kits yet, just some strategic placing of the key items where I feel they could become useful. Winning the kit would definitely take me a few steps ahead in my preparedness.
Lorien says
We talk all the time about setting up a kit but just don’t have the time/resources/knowledge to feel we’re putting together the right stuff! A kit like this would be super useful and galvanize us into putting a proper plan together.

Great give away! Thx for the opportunity
Stefanie S says
I’ve never experienced an earthquake, but this looks like a great kit to have for any emergency!
Linda says
I am poorly prepared for an earthquake and living in a high-rise. Yes, having this kit might make the job of assembling one not so overwhelming a task.
Tava says
We had an emergency tub system but as part of spring cleaning we’ve come to discover that the water was expired (it’s in the fridge now), all of the cotton padding etc for wound care had yellowed (not very comforting in an emergency so gonna replace it and use the existing for crafts, clean ups and summer injuries) and some of the items just weren’t very emergency friendly, plus we need to read/try to use some of the more complicated things so that we aren’t stumbling around at 3am trying to figure out how to use the hand crank radio or headlamps or whatnots… It probably would have been easier to have just bought a pre-assembled kit in the first place
Jeannie Lam says
Winning this would definitely make my life easier. Our emergency kit is not really complete and we have been saying how we need to pick up more items for it.
Geordia Baynes says
I don’t feel prepared! This kit looks wonderful and would provide some peace of mind knowing supplies are ready to grab in a hurry and has all the essentials needed.
