Things have definitely been very different with no one going back to school after Spring Break because of covid-19. Crisis schooling at home has been interesting. Today, we all needed a break and a change. So we decided to go for a field trip after hearing that Eagle Acres had a Safarmi drive-thru and hearing nothing but good things about it. It’s their solution for families experiencing “cabin fever” right now.
What is a safarmi? Well its a safari through a farm. Eagle Acres has adapted their farm to allow guests to drive through and see everything from inside their vehicles. It’s proven to be very popular and the farm has continued to add dates and times that they can open for guests to visit. If you are considering going, check their website for updated information.
CONTINUOUS LINE OF CARS TO SEE THE FARM
We arrive about 10 minutes after opening and you can see the line of cars up the drive to be able to pay and go on the safarmi. It’s $10 per vehicle. As a family of 4 this is a great deal. To pay they are accepting credit or debit only, holding out the machine on the end of the hockey stick for you to be able to tap. Apparently for the past 3 days, people have been paying it forward and paying for the vehicle behind them. It continued again today and we were pleasantly surprised to hear the vehicle ahead had paid for us. So we happily paid for the vehicle behind us.
On the side of a mini barn, you will see some info, including how to login to their site for their Read-along Safarmi Tour. Load it on your phone and have someone read the facts as you take your time driving through. Do be careful and watch for any cats or dogs that may be crossing the road. You’ll notice a lot of cars will unbuckle their kids so that they can go to either side of the vehicle easier to see the animals. Do remind your kids to be safe and not hang too far out of the window. I do think sticking their head out the car window was a highlight for our kids. Now they know how dogs feel when in a car.
LOTS TO SEE AND LEARN ABOUT
Our kids loved the change of activity from the usual at home. They always love getting to see animals and learn all about them. The bunnies are always a favourite. Today, they were thrilled to learn that there is a type of cow known as a Galloway, but it’s also called a panda cow! Pandas and red pandas are some of their absolute favourite animals, so I think these cows just joined the list.
It took us over 40 minutes to get through the whole tour. We were all happy about what we saw and learned our the safarmi at Eagle Acres. If you are looking for something different to do, especially because you need to get out of the house, consider checking this out. I’d suggest arriving as close to opening as you can or be prepared to wait. The traffic does move at a nice pace through. Oh, and don’t forget to pack snacks and drinks for everyone in your car. We were happy to have that, especially before it was around lunch time when we went.

Thanks for writing about this great experience! It sounds like a terrific opportunity to visit and learn from the safety of your own vehicle.
