I had no idea what I hoped to do for Evie’s 3rd birthday party. It wasn’t until we went for tea for my birthday that I got this idea of having high tea for Evie and all her friends. Evie loved the idea when I suggested it to her. Her only requests became a pink cake, and some balloons. That I knew I could easily do! With having an almost 2 month old I knew what I could do would be very limited, and I wanted her celebration to be as easy on Jason and I as possible. We booked her high tea birthday party in at TracyCakes Bakery and Cafe in Murrayville, and sent out the handmade invitations. Yes I found time to make invites, but I’ll save that for another post.
Evie early on told me she would like a pink birthday cake with rainbow cake. I love making her birthday cakes, it is something I plan to always do for my kids. This years though tried to have it out to get me. The middle layer kept crumbling. I remade it twice and finally said forget it, put some extra supports in to try and rescue it, and slapped the icing on it. Tossing it in the fridge I said a prayer that the icing would hold it together. Thankfully it did, and I was able to finish icing it the way I wanted it to look. Two shades of pink, with some sprinkles. The best part was Evie loved it when I opened the fridge to show her the morning of her party. The smile on her face made my late night of being up til 12:30am worth every minute.
LouLou Lollipop came to my rescue for the goody bags. On the invites we had mentioned that attire was to be their fanciest dress and pearls. Thanks to LouLou Lollipop each girl got their own pearl bracelet. I found little tea cups for each of the girls that came to the party and filled the bottom with some pink jelly beans, then put the bracelet in, and wrapped each one in a clear, silver start covered bag. Evie was also wearing a pretty flower covered necklace from this shop to, I love knowing that I do not have to worry if she decides to chew on the bracelet or necklace, it’s what they are meant for!
We arrived a little early to TracyCakes so that I could set up the cake and a few other little details. Evie eagerly awaited her friends arrival. She had been counting down the number of sleeps til her party for two weeks. You can imagine what we are going through when it comes to her Christmas countdown. She was so happy when each one walked through the door with their mom. Evie’s Great Nana, and Grammie-Poo also joined the celebration.
It was nice to have her birthday party be smaller this year. I knew I couldn’t handle a big party like we’ve done the past two years. It was also wonderful to know that someone else was dealing with food. I did not have to get up early to start preparing food for everyone. That was all done for us. The high tea included apple juice for all of the girls in fancy tea cups that had been set out before them on the table. All the adults got to enjoy tea too, each making their own selection from the list of teas available. I know a couple tried a lavender based tea, two people enjoyed my vanilla tea for me, and I know a couple enjoyed different mint based teas. TracyCakes has a large selection of teas, everyone was sure to find one they would like.
There were also the stands that contained the food for our high tea. Layers of different items. An assortment of finger sandwiches, quiche, veggie wraps, blue berry scones with jam and devonshire cream, and different little sweet treats and cupcakes. Everyone found something to enjoy. The scones were my favourite. I think TracyCakes knew of Evie’s love for pink because there was a pink cupcake on every tray of food that was brought out and they caught her eye right away.
It is always special to me to see Evie with all her friends. We do not get to see them all nearly as often as I would like, so moments in time like this are wonderful. I truly hope they create memories that Evie will always have. The girls were all little ladies and did great with the tea cups, not one broke their cup or spilt their drink. I was so impressed with them. It makes me want to host tea parties more often… perhaps a spring time one in our front yard?
That night wrapped up with one happy little girl who is not 3 just yet. She won’t be 3 until the 28th of this month. She went to bed with the biggest smile on her face. It took awhile for us to get her to settle down she just kept talking about everything that happened in the two hours of her party. What she ate, her cake, seeing her Grammie-Poo, Nana, and all her friends, her dress, hair clips, and accessories, the special gifts she received. She was a running dialogue of exactly what happened. She is still talking about it today. That to me is a sign of a successful birthday party.
Oh my sweet little girl, you have grown up so much this year. Each day you amaze us.
We love you so much!

I think this is a fabulous idea.
I know my students have been asking for more tea parties so perhaps I can plan a fancy one.
