How is it that we officially have a kindergartener? We blinked and she is off to elementary school. Wasn’t she just a newborn the other day? While Mommy and Daddy may not be fully ready emotionally for this, our little girl is ready for this big day. She’s been counting down all Summer.
Evie is excited to walk to school each morning. This week she will get to meet the kindergarten teachers and find out who specifically is her teacher. She cannot wait to start making new friends. She is a bit of a social butterfly. What she is really looking forward to is learning and art. She has recently decided that she wants to be an artist, but it changes daily.
We decided to take the first day of school photos the other day at a local park with a large field. We knew that her official first day would be a bit too crazy, though we’ll likely still snap a few quick photos. Tamara also goes back to work tomorrow for her 24th first day of school. Yes, she’s counted.
School is going to be an adjustment for all of us. Figuring out the morning routine. Getting out the door on time. Disturbing Addie’s naps in the afternoon, or do we put her down for a nap really late and have some quiet time for Evie too? Plus, if you have any ideas for lunches send them my way. Evie picked out her new lunch kit and can’t wait to put it to use.
EVIE’S FIRST DAY OF KINDERGARTEN QUESTIONNAIRE
How tall are you? 41 1/2 inches
How much do you weigh? 38 lbs
What is your favourite colour? Blue, green, and purple.
What is your favourite food? Apples
Who is your best friend? Cohen
What is your favourite thing to play? I like to play with my dump truck, indoor snow balls, and house with the little dolls.
What is your favourite animal? Hippos, duckies, and red pandas.
What is your favourite book? Fancy Nancy is my favourite, she’s so fancy!
What is your favourite movie? I don’t know… oh… Cinderella.
What do you want to be when you grow up? I want to paint, be an artist.
There are so many things we are hopeful for as she starts school. We hope that her teacher is incredible and takes the time to get to know her, her strengths and weaknesses and to foster a love of learning that is already so strong in her. We hope and pray that when the tough and sad moments happen during school that she knows who to talk to immediately and that she also talks to us when she gets home. We have talked lots about making new friends and including everyone. We hope that she will seek out her peers who need a friend and become that good friend to them.
We’ve been thinking back to all the milestones she has already reached from learning to roll over as a baby and walking, to being the very independent child she is today. Why is it that this milestone of going to school seems to be the hardest on our hearts? how is it we have a kindergartener? Now, please pass the Kleenex as the waterworks start.

It was so much fun taking these photos with her. I think I may need to do the questionnaire each year.

oh my gosh those pictures are absolutely ADORABLE! and i love that she filled out a questionaire. My daughter is autistic or else I totally would have done that because she wouldn’t be able to answer the questions. but great idea to do with my youngest when the time comes. she starts next year but i know, in a blink of an eye, the day will be here
discoveryparent says
I asked Evie the questions out loud and she took her time to answer some and others she gave me a reply to right away.
PS… I am an education assistant and have family with autism, I have a spot in my heart for kids with autism <3

Happy first year of elementary school! It’s such an adjustment (we just crossed this threshold last year), but she’s going to rock kindergarten. I especially loved her favorite things to play 🙂 Super cute!

Our little guy went into his 2nd year of Preschool and loved it. Helped that we put him into a camp a few weeks before.
Our littlest one, she wont be going to preschool until next year though.
Kindergarten for the little guy will be interesting.. we’re still trying to decide where to put him for that.

The questionnaire is a great idea. I might just use that myself. My son is 5 and he starts kindergarten on Monday.
