If you’ve celebrated your 10 year wedding anniversary, did you do anything big? Did you go away somewhere? Our 10 year wedding anniversary is still a couple of years out but we’ve recently started dreaming of flying to Ireland.
For some time we’ve put the idea out there that we’d like to do a vow renewal somewhere and that we’d want our kid(s) to be there. Hawaii and Mexico were both talked about. We had our honeymoon in Maui and loved visiting there. It would be a great place to go back to. We’ve never been to Mexico, but there’s just some things holding us back from going there. Plus every time you hear of a vow renewal ceremony, it’s been had at the beach.
Before we even get to Ireland, you might be wondering why we even want to have a vow renewal. Well, there are a couple reasons. The biggest being we just want to celebrate our marriage and ten years. Our marriage has had its share of ups and downs but we are on this journey together. We actually found our wedding ceremony script the other day and read through it again. It was great to bring back all the memories from our wedding day.
FINAL BLESSING
Now, may the love that has brought you together continue to grow and enrich your lives. May you meet with courage the problems that arise to challenge you. And may your relationship always be one of love and trust, and Christ centered. May the happiness you share today be with you always. And may every word you have pledged here be a living truth in your lives. Tamara and Jason believe in what is yours, believe in the depth you share and go now in great happiness assured that your feelings for each other will grow as well as your understanding, friendship and love. And be assured that you will always have the love of your family and friends to remind you of this special day.
After tossing ideas around for some time the idea of going to Ireland was finally put out there. We’ve always talked about wanting to travel across the pond and go to Europe. Ireland has always been at the top of Tamara’s wish list for travel. The idea of Jason getting to go play golf while there, at least one round, was also quickly presented in an attempt to win him over.
The more if was talked about the more we’ve fallen in love with the possibility of going to Ireland for a vow renewal. Whether it would be just the four of us, or we also let family and friends know too and if they want to come then they’d be more than welcome too.
If we do manage to make our ten year vow renewal happen we want it to be super simple. Think wedding dress, suit, the girls in flower girl dresses and maybe someone to run through the ceremony and a photographer. The rest of the time in Ireland would be a family vacation for us.
Right now we are totally intimidated just by the thought alone of going to Europe with our girls. We have only done a short flight to Disneyland with the two of them. Could we manage a long flight? Sure they would be older but it’s still worrisome. We know nothing about traveling there, we have no idea where we’d want to go to in Ireland, or where to stay, and so much more.
Thankfully we do have friends and family who have been and we can ask questions. This is definitely just the beginning of a dream and a wish. One thing for sure is we would love to have the vow renewal outside. The Aran Islands have been mentioned to us, so have the Cliffs of Moher, and there are many different churches in Ireland that we could consider too.
Have you ever been to Ireland? Is there anywhere you’d recommend for a vow renewal ceremony? Beyond that… where would you recommend we go to as a family, places to stay and see, if we do go to Ireland in 2020?

So funny I’ve been starting to plan (fantasize) about our ten year. Just a trip. Didn’t even think the bow renewal aspect but I love that. It will also be 2010 for us and I have a Meditteranean cruise on my mind.
I don’t have any input as I’ve never been to Europe but it is a serous dream (goal) of mine. I would LOVE to go to Ireland. I would come shoot your wedding there. Just sayin’ hehe. For real!!

Ireland is on my list too! The good thing is of all the places in Europe, it’s a little closer to the US, so that helps with flight time!

WHERE DO I BEGIN?!? The Aran Islands are a must. A quick ferry ride out to Inish Mor sends you back in time. And although the Cliffs of Moher are stunning, when you’re standing at the cliffs on Inish Mor, it is vastly more terrifying and awesome, as you can go right up to the cliff. This is at the Dun Aengus fort there. Spring for the horse drawn carriage, or rent bikes. Incidentally, you can faintly see the Cliffs of Moher in the hazy distance from this island. All of Ireland truly is an unfiltered 40 shades of green. You MUST stay in Dingle, one–possibly two nights. And DO, from there, take a charter out and you’ll be treated by playful time with a wild dolphin named Fungi. Everywhere you turn there is a beautiful castle. Don’t skip The Temple Bar district in Dublin. And if you head north….don’t stay in Belfast, but journey just a bit out, and stay in Bangor. You won’t be disappointed, no matter where you go!

I have been to Italy and England and loved both. I think Ireland would be a great adventure! I don’t have kids, so I don’t know how traveling with them would be. I bet you all would have a wonderful time!
