You Never Know What Will Transpire From Watching Netflix
There are several certainties when it comes to Gilmore Girls… fast-passed witty banter, a ridiculous amount of coffee, Kirk being Kirk, and lots of humour. One other thing you’ll often find in its episodes is Friday night dinners at the Gilmore’s. It got me thinking about the importance of having family dinners and caused a lightbulb moment.
Very last minute and several random texts later we planned a family dinner take-over at my Nana’s. It was long overdue. It’s not something we hope to do more often. We’re already contemplating what different potluck meals we can do… breakfast for dinner, dessert night, appetisers only, order in pizza. The list goes on and on.
Family dinner night was pretty much a constant on Gilmore Girls. Sure the Gilmores had sometimes when they were not getting along, but eventually, things settled and they would always have dinner again. It was how they all caught up with each other. It was how Lorelai would drive her mother crazy. When needed subjects were changes quickly. Good food and drinks were a must. No matter what… family was always family in the end.
My aunt and I prepped food that was brought potluck style, everyone had a hand in helping somewhere. My girls loved getting to see everyone… my husband and I loved having a bit of a break. Everyone was sufficiently suffonsified from spaghetti dinner and dessert.
I truly hope it’s the start of many memorable nights for Evie and Addie. It was a needed family night.
And if eating cake is wrong, I don’t want to be right.

I never thought about how that was kind of a constant in that show! How funny! But I grew up always having really important and big family dinners. So to me, this really hits home!

I LOVE Gilmore Girls. And you are so right- they always had their Friday Night Dinners unless they were traveling– regardless of any hard feelings, they would gather around the table to eat.
