Today, we have been celebrating Orie’s first birthday. We still can’t believe she is officially one. Didn’t we just have her? How did this year go by so fast? It’s been a bit of an odd year with everything going on. When she was born, we didn’t have visitors to the hospital and we limited who visited the house. Plus everything kind of shut down for a bit after she was born. We are so thankful that we got to celebrate her over the weekend with some of our family and friends.
HAPPY FIRST BIRTHDAY ORIE!
Orie’s birthday is on the last day of summer, so we thought a summer fruit theme was just right. We went with peaches because she is as sweet as a peach. We had some treats for everyone to enjoy. Everyone was just so thrilled to finally get to celebrate a birthday in person. It was so nice.
Originally we were planning to have it outside, in our yard. But, we live in a coastal temperate rainforest with the nickname of Raincouver. We made the decision to see if the clubhouse was available, thankfully it was. The rain did hold off, but I am so glad that we didn’t have to deep clean our whole house before everyone came over.

NOT A PINTEREST PARTY
This wasn’t a truly Pinterest-worthy party, but we did get some inspiration for what we wanted to do from there. The balloons and banner we ordered from Paper & Parties which is local to us. We inflated all the balloons for the balloon garland two nights before. Mostly because we messed up the dates and was a day ahead of myself. Oops! We found peach ribbon on clearance at Michaels and cut it to hang off the highchair with some glue dots. The paper plates and napkins we grabbed at another party store. My family printed off Orie’s monthly photos for me (our printer was out of ink) and we put those on the wall. It was a nice way for everyone to see her grow over the months of her first year.
The only pinterest-ish section would be where Orie’s highchair was for when she had her little smash cake. We surrounded it with the balloon garland, had the banner behind her, and her #1 balloon. We made sure to put our gathre mat underneath the highchair so that if cake got on the floor it would be easy to clean up. It definitely made for a cute little photo spot. Several family members and friends took photos with Orie here.
ENJOY YOUR CAKE LITTLE ONE
We had made cupcakes for everyone to enjoy whenever they wanted, but we also had a little smash cake that we baked for Orie. We sang happy birthday, which actually sounded really good if you caught the video over on our Instagram stories, and put the cake in front of her. She started off really dainty, but then got braver and dug right in. It was the cutest thing seeing her just lean right into the cake.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY LITTLE LOVE
We love you so much Orie! We cannot say that enough. You have brought so much joy to our family over this year. We are so looking forward to seeing your personality continue to come out. You are taking steps on your own and you even started signing more and waving today. You are such a smart little love and you have a huge heart for the people you love. You are also fiercely independent. Love you lots, happy first birthday Orie!

You say this isn’t a Pinterest-worthy birthday. I beg to differ. What a beautiful setup for such a sweet little girl.
