Addie turned 4 today! You better believe I took the opportunity to go and wake her up and say happy birthday to her before going to work. She was still sleeping when my husband and I went into her room. It was the sweetest moment because as soon as I whispered “happy birthday” a smile crossed her face. I can’t believe she’s 4… wasn’t she a newborn yesterday?
When it came to how she wanted to celebrate she knew exactly what she wanted. Cake, mermaids, and dinosaurs. All the decorations that got her attention, thanks to Papers & Parties, were mermaid themed. So that settled the theme a bit. What surprised me a bit is that her older sister also had a mermaid theme for her 4th birthday, so I guess it’s a go-to theme for preschoolers.

This was not the first time that I have made a mermaid birthday cake. Addie wanted something different. We scrolled Pinterest together and she pointed out a couple of different things she liked from several cakes. She wanted blue icing, mermaid tails she could eat, and 3 different colours inside the cake. There had to be blue, pink, and purple. Knowing what she was hoping for I set to work.
She was absolutely thrilled to come home and see the cake done and ready for our Thanksgiving picnic and birthday celebration. The squealing of joy in the kitchen will never be forgotten. Unfortunately, she wasn’t really able to blow out the candle while we were at the park. Thanks wind! We had a cake and candle redo when we got home in the evening. Half the cake was not eaten, so we were able to put the candles back in and light them so she could truly blow out the candles.
Happy 4th birthday Addie! You’re an amazing little girl. Full of love and adventure. Maybe too much adventure with all the bandaids and hospital visits we’ve gone through. But we wouldn’t expect anything else from you. While you may be small, your emotions are huge. We love you so much!
