Sunday we celebrated Thanksgiving with my family. Tradition has been to go for a picnic but we were unsure of what the weather was going to be like. We decided against risking Raincouver weather and had our dinner indoors fo the first time in years. We have plenty to be thankful for.
We had a splendid Thanksgiving and I hope you all did too. Our potluck style family dinner had all the fixings and a perfectly delish turkey. It’s wonderful having everyone pitch in to help out with some portion of the meal.
Our Thanksgiving Dinner Musts
– Turkey – Potatoes – Veggies – Buns
– Stuffing – Cranberry Sauce – Gravy
– Snacks – Desserts – Drinks
Normally we make a list, check it twice and all that jazz. It was not until we got to my Aunt and Uncle’s house that I realized I didn’t offer to bring cranberry sauce. {You can find the recipe for my cranberry sauce here. } We were at a cranberry festival the day before and I didn’t even think about it then. What a fail on my part. Our turkey dinner was cranberry sauce-less.
Before the main course though we nibbled away on all sorts of snack items. My sister brought up a variety of treats from the States. The highlight for me being the chocolate covered pretzels and the crunchy m&ms. The food for the main course was amazing. Turkey, brussel sprouts with bacon, turnip and apple bake, lazy perogies, carrots, gravy, salad, and flaky biscuits.
Now, we came to realize something this Thanksgiving. It’s something that I wish I was told about when Evie was little and having her first Thanksgiving. Addie got to sit in her highchair and enjoy a drumstick from the turkey. It was a hit with her and everyone there. I think the majority of my family all of a photo of her holding onto the drumstick and doing her best to eat it. It definitely was a great way to keep a teething baby occupied and happy.
I love that my family is always more than willing to involve my girls somehow. Thanksgiving was no different. Evie was able to craft some jack-o-lanterns out of paper and later she was helping to decorate the cookies that were part of dessert. Addie was going back and forth and visiting everyone, especially during the baseball game that was playing on TV.
We have so much to be thankful for… family, friends, the roof over our heads, the country we live in and so much more. We are beyond blessed. Everyday we must remember to give thanks and to be thankful.
From our family to yours we wish you a happy Thanksgiving!

Sounds like a wonderful Thanksgiving.
We didn’t do cranberry sauce either as I’m the only one who eats it. I did turkey (precooked and sliced from the local butcher shop), mashed potatoes, carrots, corn, gravy, and blueberry cheesecake.
Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving! It sounds like you are creating some awesome memories for your beautiful family. I’m stealing your idea to give my son a turkey leg this year – I never would have thought of that! Too cute. 🙂
