As soon as we heard about Disney+ we knew it was likely to be something that we would want to get for our family to be able to watch. That was several months ago when we first heard about the pending launch of Disney+. We recently made the decision to say goodbye to cable and hello to Disney+ when it launched on November 12th, 2019.
WHY DID WE SAY GOODBYE TO CABLE?
We realized over the years that what we actually watch on cable television has drastically declined. Things like the news and a few favourite shows we can now watch online. For our children, we’ve noticed a shift in the quality of children’s shows and honestly, we don’t care for it. We’ve been using subscription-based options much more. So, why put our money into cable television when we really aren’t watching it?
DISNEY+
Sadly, Canadians weren’t offered the same deals Americans were for Disney+. We were able to get Disney+ for $8.99 a month or $89.99 a year, plus we got the first week for free when we signed up on the day of the launch. My husband thankfully got everything sorted and had Disney+ up and running on our TV and iPads while I was at work during the day. Disney+ also works on multiple partner platforms such as Google, Amazon, Apple, Microsoft, Samsung, Sony, and Roku devices.
Disney+ premiered its first original series and films including “The Mandalorian,” the epic first-ever live-action Star Wars series; “Lady and the Tramp,” a live-action re-telling of the 1955 animated classic; “Noelle,” an original holiday comedy film starring Anna Kendrick, “High School Musical: The Musical: The Series,” the all-new scripted series set at the real-life East High featured in the blockbuster film franchise; “The World According to Jeff Goldblum” docu-series from National Geographic; “Marvel’s Hero Project,” which celebrates extraordinary kids making a difference in their communities; “Encore!,” executive produced by the multi-talented Kristen Bell; “The Imagineering Story” 6-part documentary from Emmy and Academy Award-nominated director Leslie Iwerks; short-form series “Pixar IRL” and “Disney Family Sundays;” and animated short film collections “SparkShorts” and “Forky Asks A Question” from Pixar Animation Studios.
As a family, we have been loving showing some of our favourites from our childhood to our kids. We’ve introduced them to Lizzie McGuire and Recess! There are so many classic Disney movies it’s going to make family movie night a challenge to agree on something. Which is a problem I am totally okay with when it comes to Disney.

DISNEY + CAN ONLY GET BETTER
There are definitely some things we’ve noticed on Disney+ that we know can only get better. We have experience the search bar coming up with no results on several search attempts. This is frustrating! Especially when you have seen others share in their Instagram stories that they have watched a classic Goofy cartoon. Sadly you’ve been unable to find it. Disney needs to update this quickly and make more topics searchable and showing more results. It shouldn’t be so difficult to find things.
There is also this little issue of Disney+ not saving where you left off watching. A binge-watchers worst nightmare. I can see Disney changing little things very soon to make the whole Disney+ experience even more positive. With so many different subscription options, they can definitely learn from what is out there. Overall, we are happy with Disney+ so far. I’m especially looking forward to watching all the holiday classics with my kids this Christmas.
