Food allergies and sensitivities run in my family it seems. Several of us are gluten free. I am always excited to discover great tasting items that are gluten free. Cookies have been a rare treat. Especially being able to find ready made ones that are actually good to taste, and great texture. I finally found the perfect option though!
A year ago at a kids and tot expo I stumbled across Hidden Garden and their gluten free cookie booth. They had a great deal going on at the expo so I decided to bring home the chocolate chip cookies and the ginger snap cookies. I was hooked. These have become my go to gluten free cookie if I am looking for a treat.
The best part though about these cookies is that there are veggies hidden in them! Brilliant I tell you. What better way to sneak veggies into something than putting them in a cookie. Even the pickiest eater who opposes veggies is likely to be a fan of these.
The cookies come in three different flavours. You have chocolate chip, red velvet, and ginger snap. Each one has something different hidden into it. Thus the name Hidden Garden. In the chocolate chip you will find pumpkin, red velvet has beets, and ginger snap has butternut squash. Yes, I love the fact that I know my daughter is getting a bit of veggies in a special treat when she gets to enjoy one of these. The main base of the cookies is rice flour, and potato starch. I like that organic cane sugar, and honey are used as the sweeteners. Another great thing about these cookies is that when you read the ingredient list there are no words you cannot mispronounce, and that you would have no clue as to what it is. Catherine Anderson, found of Hidden Garden, knew exactly what she needed to do in developing these cookies.
Most gluten free ready made options are up there in price. These cookies are around $5.99 per bag, which I consider pretty reasonable with knowing the cost of all the ingredients that go into these cookies. Plus I know how amazing they taste! So worth it if you have been desperately trying to find a good gluten free cookie. You can find these cookies at Nature’s Fare, Save-On Foods, London Drugs, Urban Fare, and a few other locations. You can check their site for the nearest location near you to purchase these from.
If I had to pick a favourite between the three it would be the ginger snap. It is the perfect cookie to enjoy with a cup of tea. Great for dunking, and nice and crisp. My daughter always goes for the chocolate chip ones so I think it is safe to say those are her favourite.
Want to give these a try? One lucky reader form the Lower Mainland or Vancouver Island will get to win a gift basket from Hidden Garden that contains 2 bags of each cookie flavour! How wonderful is that? I cannot thank Hidden Garden enough for providing such a great opportunity. So please enter the giveaway by going to the Rafflecopter link. Share the contest with anyone you know who would be interested in checking these out. Good luck everyone!

We aren’t gluten free but we try to eat healthy. I never buy baked items because of all the bad ingredients. It would be awesome to try a healthier store bought treat!

We like having gluten free cookies as a treat but it’s difficult to find gluten free items that don’t have eggs in them so we can’t do it often.

YAY for yummy gluten free cookies. Most are like rocks or are made with other GF ingredients I can’t have. But rice flower and veggies, sounds perfect.

I recently started having belly isues I would feel nauseas for no reason. I just went for a endoscopy and so am waiting for the biopsies to come back, but in the meantime I have stopped eating gluten and dairy and I am feeling much better. Would love to win these!

We are a 100% GF household and we are always looking for great GF options (sadly there are not a lot of good ones out there!). I usually make my own so that I get what I am looking for -but love it when I find a store bought product that my teen will actually eat, so that I can buy something on the run for her!
