2021 HONDA CIVIC SPORT TOURING
Growing up as a kid, I remember my family having a Honda Civic hatchback. Believe it or not, it was our family vehicle for a while as a family of 6. Don’t worry, we did not all cram into it. I believe it was a 1993 model, but I would have to double-check with my parents. It was in this turquoise green colour.
Driving the 2021 Honda Civic Sport Touring model was a lot of fun. It also brought me right back to being a new driver and the red Pontiac Firefly I had as my first car. The Honda Civic has a special place in my heart because it brings back so many memories from my childhood and youth. Now I totally feel old for saying that.
The price point of the Honda Civic Sport Touring starts at around $33,900 and goes up from there depending on colour, trim , etc…
WHAT WE ENJOYED ABOUT THE CIVIC
We got stopped a couple of times in parking lots by people commenting on the Civic and having questions. It is definitely eye-catching. The shape of the hatchback Civic has definitely improved over the years. It’s getting the attention of others in the Rallye Red. Which is a nice solid red, with no sparkle to it. The dual centre exhaust really makes the backend look great.
- Decently spacious inside the cabin
- Power and fuel efficiency – We were averaging 9 L/100KMs, my husband even got it down to 8 L/100KMS
- Honda Sensing Technology – turn the right turn signal on and video view of the right side of the car comes up on the infotainment screen, lane keep assist, road departure, etc.
- Under console storage – it was nice to be able to hide some things as needed in this space
- Wireless phone charger – you can turn this on and off so that it’s not automatically charging your phone when you set it down
- Smart key with push-button start – this was amazing during the heat wave to be able to cool down the car before getting in
- Sound system – the quality of music playing in the vehicle was fantastic
- Capless fuel tank – just push on the door, open it, and you can start fueling
WHAT WE HOPE TO SEE CHANGE IN THE FUTURE WITH THE CIVIC
My big complaint time and time again with any smaller car is legroom. Why is the dash so massively long? Does it need to be like this? My husband and I are both almost 6 feet tall. My height is in my legs and I run out of room quickly in cars, both as a driver and as a passenger. I would love to be able to sit comfortably as a passenger in a Civic, but also not have to worry about backing the seat into a passenger’s legs in the back. Thankfully for us, it is our kids so they don’t reach just yet. But what if you’re a younger person and going out with friends? Not everyone will be able to fit comfortably if they are of average or above-average height.
We were test driving this during the heatwave here in the Lower Mainland and we immediately were wishing for better air circulation, especially when it came to the second row. It would be really nice to see air vents in the back so that anyone in the back row can also control their climate and not have to worry about being too hot or too cold. We were asked several times by our kids to turn up the AC so they could feel it. Meanwhile, we were cold in the front.
IT MIGHT NOT BE A FAMILY VEHICLE BUT…
While the Honda Civic Hatchback may not be thought of as a family vehicle right away. It definitely worked for us as a family of 5. Would you believe me if I told you that we managed to get a forward-facing 5 point harness, a backless booster, and a rear-facing 5 point harness car seat in the second row? We did and we were impressed. I can remember being so squished as a kid in the older model Civic. The girls are held decent legroom, even I did when I sat back there.
The boot space is fantastic! It’s larger than you would expect. We had no problem fitting our UPPAbaby Minu stroller and a bunch of groceries into it. We even had space for an emergency diaper change. Plus, it had grocery bag hooks. Which as an adult I truly appreciated it. It’s the little things Honda has thought to include.
