MOM… CAN I HAVE A DRAGON?
Never would have guessed that my kids would be asking for a dragon. I should have known though when we started watching the How to Train Your Dragon movies that they would. The girls quickly became hooked and had their favourite characters and dragons. When How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World came to theatres we had a family movie night out. Now, we can enjoy the movie again in the comfort of our own home.
From Dreamworks comes a surprising tale about growing up, finding the courage to face the unknown… and how nothing can ever train you to let go. What began as an unlikely friendship between an adolescent Viking and a fearsome Night Fury dragon has become an epic trilogy spanning their lives. When the sudden appearance of a female Light Fury coincides with the darkest threat their village has ever faced, Hiccup and Toothless must journet to a hidden world thought only to exist in myth. In this last chapter, Hiccup and Toothless will finally discoveer their true destines, and dragon and rider will fight together to protect everything they’ve grown to treasure.
This movie shares another story about the friendship between Hiccup and Toothless. They are growing up and as you grow up things change, even in friendships. Thank you for having a storyline that brings tears to my eyes. It’s one that many can connect to. If for some reason you don’t know who Hiccup and Toothless are, go watch the first two movies! Make some popcorn and have a movie night. You’ll enjoy them. Your kids will enjoy them.
How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World is jam-packed with action and all sorts of beautiful scenes. We all loved when [SPOILER] they finally discover the hidden world. It’s beautifully done. Every time we see this scene we can’t help but go “wow!”. The artwork and creativity in this movie trilogy have only improved with each film. Well done to everyone who was involved in creating this!
DRAGONS + SHEEP = DINNER
Something we always love when movies are released on blu-ray and dvd is that they often have bonus features and so much more on them. This blu-ray is full of all sorts of bits and pieces for viewers to check out. The Dragon Sheep Chronicles has me laughing so much and made me wonder why I had never given any thought to how they managed to keep sheep on Berk? Dragons + Sheep = Dinner it’s simple math. But don’t worry, the Vikings of Berk figured out a solution.
One question I always get when it comes to movie reviews, is it going to be scary at all for my kids to watch? As with any movie involving Vikings, this does have some battle scenes. My daughters were not too fond of the bad guy in this film or his “bad dragons” as my youngest put it. The girls did perfectly fine through it. Keep in mind, if your kids are very sensitive to things, you may want to screen it yourself first before they watch it.

Andrea Cade says
It’s really hard to pick just one. Hiccup grows throughout the series learning responsibility and leadership. Astrid is focused, controlled but can see her errors and naturally leads others, including Hiccup, with calmness and great battle skill. Stoic who seems deeply entrenched is a father, a leader, trying as best he knows how but sees Hiccup has found another way and changes not just his own views but the entire village’s way of living. Not to mention dies protecting his son.
There are some vapid, comic-relief characters but there are so many strong stories too that it really feels like an accomplishment in children’s filmmaking.
As you may have guessed… We’re fans!

Astrid is my favourite character. She is strong, funny, and smart…altogether a great female character. My kids have been obsessed with the movie’s dragons since the first movie. The books and even TV series goes into the types of dragons there are in so much detail which my older kid obsessed about a little 🙂 I can’t wait to see this third movie. My kids are dirty little traitors and went to see this with grandpa behins my back 😂
