We said those very words in our wedding vows.
… secure in the knowledge that you will be my constant friend, my faithful partner in life, and my one true love. On this day, I give to you in the presence of God, and our friends and family my pledge to stay by your side as your faithful wife/husband in sickness and in health, in joy and in sorrow, as well as through the good times and the bad. I promise to love you without reservation, comfort you in times of distress, encourage you always, laugh with you and cry with you, grow with you in mind and spirit, always be open and honest with you, and to cherish and love you for as long as we both shall live.
We have been slowly updating family and friends over the past while. We are asking for your support and prayers during this time. We never expected to face this word so early in our lives and in our marriage, but here we are. The other day it was confirmed that Jason has a cancerous tumor.
One evening last week he decided to go to emergency at our local hospital, as it would be much faster than going to a walk-in clinic where he’d just get referred to the hospital anyway so that testing can be done. Jason was the referred to a specialist quickly, had a lot of blood work done. What we suspected in our hearts, though we hoped for other news, was confirmed.
Here we are.
If it’s possible to be thankful when the word cancer enters your life, we are thankful that it is curable cancer. Though, as with anything, there is never a guarantee. So we pray.
A surgery date has been booked for next month. We have been waiting and praying that an early CT scan appointment would be available, that prayer was answered this week and Jason will be going for a CT scan to check if the cancer is localized this week. We want to hear the news that it is localized because it means only surgery is needed. Please pray for this.
We have all been riding a roller coast of emotions. Shocked, overwhelmed, sad, calm, trusting, and so much more. We are handing this over to God in prayer. We ask that you also join us in praying.
Please pray for wisdom and guidance for the doctors and medical staff. For healing after the surgery and healing from cancer. For calming and positivity. The best thing we can do is be positive about the outcome and be calm through the process. Also, pray that this will be a part of Jason’s testimony and be a help to others.
We really appreciate your prayers, love, and support at this time.

Sending prayers and peace to you and your family. Five years ago, my family was going through a similar situation when it was discovered I had stage 4 lymphoma at 32, during a trip to the ER for what I thought was the flu. It was a heartbreaking diagnosis that seemed impossible to overcome at the time but through prayer, fight and an amazing medical team, today I am as healthy as ever. I just know you guys will have the same outcome. Stay strong, you got this!

Tamara, I am sure this was a hard post to write. Something about putting it down into words and posting on the world wide web can make things feel very official. You two together emit a lot of strength and together you are one kick ass team.

I just walked through a similar journey with a couple of newlywed friends of mine so my heart is like right there with you. Prayer is the best way to start this battle. And by God’s grace this will be a beautiful testimony for you and your husband…you already are being a beautiful testimony. I’ll certainly be praying for sure and I’m so glad I found your blog and read this even though I’d already reached my goal. 😊 (Luke 18:27).
