There is a show on Netflix that won us all over instantly, from the moment we started the very first episode. It brought back childhood memories for me and immediately started creating memories for my daughters. We are all loving Julie’s Greenroom on Netflix. Have you seen it?
Of course, the first thing that got my attention for this show was Julie Andrews herself. The show was developed by Julie Andrews and her daughter Emma Walton Hamilton. You also have the incredible puppets that are brought to life thanks to The Jim Henson Company. That company is behind some of the most famous puppets around.
Watching this show with my girls, we get to learn and discover about the arts together. The show features a wonderfully diverse puppet cast that explores everything from singing to acting to writing and more. Each episode has a special guest and you get to learn a bit about them, like how they started singing or playing the violin to everything they’ve done to get to where they are today.
Essentially this show is a child’s guide to the arts and especially musical theater. The Greenies, the 5 children puppets, are attending a performing arts workshop led by Ms. Julie. Former greenies come back to visit and present master classes. The kids start off planning a performance of The Wizard of Oz, but a basement flood changes everything. They decide to create a new musical of their own and they do so with the help of the previous greenies who come to visit.
There are all sorts of little lessons are tied into the show. There are a lot of emotional building blocks included in the show and a huge one we’ve noticed is how the show helps build confidence into the whole cast. This is something we’ve been working on instilling in our own daughters so it’s wonderful for them to learn about it from elsewhere too.
If you are looking for something new to watch with your kids, give Julie’s Greenroom a try. Be warned, if your kiddo is a fan of Frozen they will be instantly a fan of the show when they realize who is the guest to the Greenroom. I will always love how my oldest daughter declares she wants to become a singer or learn how to play an instrument after she watches an episode. I know she is being inspired by this show!
Have you watched Julie’s Greenroom? What did you think of it?
