We finally hit that point. The point where you run out of sizes in the items that were given to you as gifts at the baby shower. Maybe even running out of sizes from the hand-me-down stash. Of course that point also had to happen when a sudden growth spurt occurred.
We recently had to go through all of Evie’s closet and take out what didn’t fit her any more. We also pulled out all the other too small items that we had packed away. I decided to try and purge that stash down to just items we really loved. I am currently in the process of trying to sell some of those items, and have donated others.
We may even take some of the items down to the consignment store, as right now the purge pile has taken over a corner of our living room. Selling some of it is really nice because then there is some money to put towards the new size, and items that are needed.
In doing all of this I have realized that in the future (if we have another kid) that child will be living in sleepers with zippers til they are 6 months old. I also want to keep their wardrobe to a few key pieces. So what if I have to do laundry a bit more often.
While on our trip to Oregon we made a stop and got a few things on sale and in clearance for spring and summer. I don’t want to buy too far ahead for fear of a growth spurt again and having items that are the wrong size. That being said the are always some crazy good deals in clearance sections of stores at the end of the season. Always great to find a good winter coat at a more budget friendly price. When in doubt buy big, you can always roll up the sleeves.
Growing up I loved going to the thrift store to find new-to-me clothing. I have no problem with my little one wearing hand me downs and second hand items. They grow so fast and put holes in the knees of pants too quickly for the price of new items sometimes.
Now, while thinking about all of this, what would you say are the key items for little ones each season? Do you shop the consignment stores and swap groups?
