Thanks to Shark Week this Summer, we realized that both of our girls love animal shows. Of course, we then checked out what Netflix had to offer when your kids love animals. To our surprise, there were lots for them to watch! With this new found knowledge we have added this to the nighttime routine. Read on to find out more about that.
- Baby Animals in the Wild: From grizzly cubs on land to baby turtles at sea, follow all sorts of young animals as they learn the skills they need to survive.
- Growing Up Wild: Following 5 baby animals from different parts of the world. You see them grow up, learning how to survive in the wild with the guidance of their families.
- Frozen Planet: Takes you on a journey through the Arctic and Antarctic where you get to see just what the wilderness is like and who the inhabitants are.
- Planet Earth: The Complete Collection: This landmark series transports nature lovers from the Himalayan Mountains to the depths of the ocean and everywhere in between.
These are just a few of the shows that the girls have watched or are working their way through. We still have several episodes of Planet Earth to watch. It’s incredible to see them watch something with so much interest, especially my oldest daughter. She will ask all sorts of questions throughout the show. Her little sister is just happy to see all the different animals.
So, why have the animal shows on Netflix become part of the nighttime routine for the girls? A few weeks ago we switched the girls into one room. The transition was not a smooth one. We finally figured out a method that worked by staggering bedtimes. We put our oldest to bed first because she has always been a great sleeper, her little sister is the tough one. While waiting for her sister to go to sleep we would let our youngest watch a little bit of one of the animal shows. Then, we would go through the rest of her bedtime routine and get her tucked in for the night.
Thankfully we are now at the point where we can put the girls to bed at the same time, now the animal shows are saved for other times. Plus, there are still plenty of other animal themed shows to discover on Netflix.
