Milkies Milk-Savers (Review & Giveaway}
I had seen this product making its way around different sites and tucked it in the back of my mind because I was intrigued by it, that is until the day I heard of my friend’s “whoas” of being a new mom, unable to pump, but dealing with issues of leaking. I introduced her to reusable nursing pads, and mentioned Milkies Milk-Savers to her. She hunted the product down that night and ordered one right away.
Fairhaven Health very kindly sent one my way, and I quickly realized how much I wish I had this product when I had my daughter. We are all told that breast milk is liquid gold. We value every drop for our little ones, and even cry over spilled milk after having pumped for however long in the middle of the night and accidentally knocking over the container. So why wouldn’t you want to save the milk from leaking? Especially during the first few days, and even weeks depending on when your body adjusts.
I think it is wonderful and has been my saving grace! Being unable to pump, it allows me to save the milk that was soaking through my nursing pad, bra, shirt, and often through baby girls’ outfit too! I needed something to help me prevent all that leaking, and this was my solution. The only real downside is when I overflow it, which has only happened twice. I learned quickly to check on it periodically to ensure that it wasn’t too full and haven’t had an issue with that since. The price of it was very reasonable, and it is easy to clean and use! – Bwyn
Those are my friends words about the product. There is also another way around things if you have an overflow issue. You can actually attach a milk storage bag to the milk-saver. It takes a little figuring out how to attach and get it to fit in your bra but it can be done if you know that this much storage is needed while you are pumping or nursing. Without adding a milk storage bag to it, the milk-save holds about 2 ounces of milk. Can you imagine how fast that would add up if you filled that every time?
So basically you wear the milk-saver inside of your nursing bra or tank-top while pumping or nursing. The milk-saver than saves any milk that leaks from the other side during letdown and the nursing/pumping session. Instead of losing all that milk into a nursing pad, or all over your clothing you can then store it away for later. Brilliant! Especially if you had my friend’s difficulties with pumping and could not get milk to store any other way.
I really like that right on their site it says that they care about the safety of the materials they use in their products. That means a lot to moms as we do not want to be dealing with or having to be worried about chemical leaching. The company is also environmentally conscious, which is nice to see. With this you can use fewer disposable nursing pads, are washing milk-soaked clothing less often, the milk saver can be recycled if you are finished with it or why not wash it and give it to a friend to try and use. Any of my friends with little ones out there, if you are wanting to try it let me know.
Until I finished pumping, after 15 months of doing so, I still had the odd moment of dealing with leaking for whatever reason. So even someone with an older child I found this product to be helpful. My milk supply was found to be low when my daughter was a newborn, and I had to supplement with my daughter. That being said, I did pump and I did deal with leaking. If I had this product when my daughter was a newborn I could have stored a bit more milk. I found it very easy to figure out how to use, and it was easy to get used to wearing it. I did find it to be a bit bulky, which was not really surprising to me as the product itself was a bit bigger than I expected it to be when it arrived. However, if it was any smaller you wouldn’t be able to save as much milk into it, it needs to be the size it is. I also liked that it is very soft to the touch. Yes there is a part inside that is made of a stiffer material, but I never noticed it. I really like that it comes with a storage container. The milk-saver is very easy to clean, and you can put it away in the container and know it is ready to go for the next use. I am already in love with this product, and I was glad to hear that it helped my friend. I know I will be using this product in the future if we are blessed with another child, and it is also going on my list of items to tell other new moms to try or put on their baby shower lists.
Now… are you a new mom? Thinking of having another little one and know this would help you? Or do you know someone who could use this? Well Fairhave Health has very kindly offered to provide a giveaway for Discovering Parenthood followers. Wahoo! Be sure to go to the Rafflecopter link below and enter.

I’ve been wanting to try this! Right now I’m pretty much holding a bottle under my nipple. It can be a bit messy at times when my baby squirms…
TamaraG says
Oh wow JB that takes a lot of dedication to collect the milk with a bottle, good for you! Good luck.

I would find this very useful in slowly boosting my stash with leakage from nursing. Anything for extra milk and less waste on nursing pads!
TamaraG says
Miriam it would definitely be helpful in boosting your stash. Do you use disposable or reusable nursing pads?
amanda stiner says
I am dying to get one of these. I still leak quite a bit while nursing my 3mo old and this would help me to get a stash built up for times i dont have time to pump but need to leave him with a sitter for a little while.
TamaraG says
Good luck Amanda, it seems this product definitely is something many moms are searching for. I’m glad I’m not the only one who found themselves leaking even when their little one got older. It seems like my body never regulated. It definitely would help get a stash going for you. I pumped for 15 months, but this would have helped me collect even more earlier on.
Danielle says
I would find this product useful because I find it hard to find time to pump and still getting used to being a FTM and would love to have these to save every ounce of milk that I can to build a stock supply for my LO and possible be a future donor if possible.
TamaraG says
Danielle it sure is hard finding time to pump. I pumped for 15 months, and now I worry about when we may have another child and how would I ever find time if I found myself needing to pump round the clock again. I love that you are thinking of being a donor, that is wonderful!
Valarie Clark says
Milkies Milk Saver would be great in helping in building my stash. I feel how much milk is lost in my bra or nursing pads while nursing with me only being able to pump 1oz to 2oz in a session, having something to catch that wasted “liquid gold” is genius.
TamaraG says
Valarie, its true so much gets lost and wasted and its disappointed to realize that. Something like this just may be the right thing for you.
Jennifer says

Would LOVE to try one of these, I have CRAZY letdowns and would really like to know how much I have been wasting away into the breast pads for the last 8 months!
TamaraG says
The amount that ends up in nursing pads can be astonishing!
Madison says
We would love to win these!! With 2 babies I find it impossible to pump, but with these it would make it so much easier to keep some in the freezer!!
TamaraG says
Now I’m worried about having time to pump when we have another. I could only pump with our daughter.
Good luck! It definitely seems like this product is what a lot of moms need.

I’ve been curious about trying these and would love to give them a shot. With a preschooler and a 10-week old, I find it so much harder to find the time to pump this time around.

I would love to try these. I have had 3 children and am expecting my 4th in Aug. I have always had a hard time pumping but do leak a lot while nursing. So these would be awesome to catch what I loose 🙂
TamaraG says
Congratulations on expecting your 4th! I’d love 4 kids but my hubby wants 2 maybe 3.
I’m finding pumping is a common thing for moms to struggle with, but we all seem to have had leaking issues at some point.
Good luck.

Brittanie Pierce says
I would totally find this product useful. I am expecting my third in November. With my son I leaked so much milk in the beginning. My pads would be super full with milk. It would be nice to save the milk instead.

I really could have used these with my daughter, and would love to have them for my second! I hate wasted milk.
