Ever since we got home from our trip to Disneyland Evie has been making a request known to us, every night she lets us know one thing she really wants. She even made it known that it was on her Christmas and birthday wish list. Evie wants to go on a Mommy-Daughter trip to Disneyland. It’s left me wondering, why would you do a Mommy-Daughter trip to Disneyland?
When I was little, and heading into kindergarten my Mom took me for a trip just her and I. It wasn’t to Disneyland, we went back to her hometown and visited family and did some sight seeing. I still remember chunks of that trip. My first flight and my ears popping. Going to the local zoo and seeing the animals. Going to an indoor play place. All sorts of things start to pop into my memory when I think about it. I loved that trip because I had so much one-on-one time with my Mom.
Thinking back to my trip when I was about Evie’s age, it makes me really want to take her somewhere. The fact that she keeps hinting at Disneyland really makes me want to try and make it happen. I’m starting my searching for deals now, and I’m really hoping Disneyland brings back a Canadian discount next Fall for park tickets.
One thing for sure I’d want to find a hotel within walking distance, like right across the street walking distance. I do not want to be waiting for a shuttle bus or ART to come and pick us up to go to Disneyland or return to the hotel. I’d rather save a bit more and invest it in a hotel that is a 5-10 minute walk. I also don’t think I’d be bringing a stroller for this, so that’s a game changer too.
I recently asked Evie why exactly she wants to go back to Disneyland with just Mommy, and these are the reasons she gave:
Why Evie wants to go back to Disneyland with Mommy…
- I like it there… I love it there!
- I want to ride on stuff, like tea cups and caterpillar (she’s talking about the Alice in Wonderland)
- Because it’s beautiful
- I love Mommy… but I guess Daddy could take me too, I love Daddy too.
- I want to get some popcorn in a special box again
- I want to get some Mickey Mouse ice cream, the one that’s on a stick with lots of chocolate
- If we go to Disneyland again, I’d be happy
- It be nice for it to be just Mommy and me
- I love Aurora, but she wasn’t there when we went last time
- I love Mickey Mouse there, and Minnie Mouse
Evie does have some pretty solid reasoning for why she wants to go back. I mean, I cannot argue with wanting to get a bucket of popcorn and that she loves it there. It would be fun to get to share all the magic of Disney and all the special little moments there just the two of us. Can you also just imagine all the possibilities of “twinning” photos for the two of us?
Plus, the very thought of getting to either replicate these photos below or surprise her somehow with going to Disneyland just makes me super excited. I know she would be over the moon with joy about going. I’m really hoping I can make this happen. The more I think about it, the more I want a mommy-daughter trip to Disneyland just as much as she does. My little girl will be in kindergarten next year, what better way to celebrate? Though I may also cry a little because my baby is growing up so fast.

I’m local to Disney World and go all the time with the kiddos! We have such fun and make special memories. (I love our family time too, but it is rather special to just have Mommy & Me time!)
I can’t speak to Disneyland specifically, but I’d say go for it! Take lots of pictures and just have fun! I have a Disney World blog post about going solo with the kids that might have some tips that carry over for you, if you’re interested: http://www.thephilosopherswife.net/2017/01/disney-with-two-little-kids-and-one.html
One thing that jumped out at me, I’d be hesitant to leave the stroller behind, I’d bring it, even if you park it for hours at a time it will be there when you need it (and you won’t have to shell out a ton for a rental). Mine is a lifesaver. Seriously. I love that thing.

I love this! I grew up in Southern CA and almost all of my family is still there. Most have Disneyland season passes so for our son’s 2nd birthday we took him to Disneyland and many of them joined us. The next year, he and I went to California on our own because we wanted to stay a couple of weeks and my husband couldn’t miss work. One day we went to Disney with my sister and nephew but I really wanted to take him on a date just the two of us so we went a second day. It’s been over a year and we’ve since spent a week with family at WDW — that solo visit to Disneyland is definitely my fave. experience. We went on a weekday, that happened to be the first day of Halloween decor (so fun!) Since we were able to stay with family nearby, I had more money to do special things that we wouldn’t normally do — like get his face painted. My one tip for you is to still bring that stroller!!! He napped for at least an hour in it while I charged my phone in the lockers. 😉

My 2 year old daughter and I have gone on many solo trips to Disneyland. We live close so it is like another play ground for us to visit. I usually stick to one park and focus on only a few rides or activities. It takes longer to do everything when it is just me loading the stroller, applying sunscreen, finding snacks, changing diapers at the Baby Care Center, etc. I like to take my daughter to a play area first, like the Redwood Creek Challenge Trail in California Adventure, and let her run around so she can burn up some of her endless energy, then she is more ready to let me push her around in the stroller the rest of the day. That makes things a lot easier!

I absolutely would go on a mommy and daughter trip. In fact, I can’t wait until she is a bit older so we can start doing things together like this. Your daughter will treasure those memories forever, the way you did with your memories with your own mom. 🙂
