We headed to Vancouver not too long ago for a Netflix event with some of our fellow Stream Team members. We had the opportunity to learn all about Netflix Interactive Storytelling from the Netflix grew…. plus the kids all enjoyed a sugar overload. Have you tried the new Interactive Storytelling?
Netflix is changing things up again with its Interactive Storytelling. So, just what is Interactive Storytelling? It’s the opportunity for the viewer to be in control of what happens next during a show. Currently, this feature is available with Puss In Boots: Trapped in an Epic Tale and Buddy Thunderstruck: The Maybe Pile.
While Evie didn’t fully grasp that she was in control when trying this feature out on an Ipad, she did realize quickly that she had options. At certain points throughout the show, you get to two choices. The choices are both visual and written beneath the image. She would simply pick what image appealed to her and the story would continue to be told with that option in place.
What I appreciate with this is that you can also go back and change your option! So if you are watching the show as a family and perhaps there is a disagreement about which to pick you can go back and select the other and see what happens then too. It’s a great way to keep everyone happy.
Being given the opportunity to make decisions helps keep the viewer involved and have the storyline progress how they would want it to. It’s a fun twist on simply watching a show. We had a lot of fun learning about Interactive Storytelling and have used this feature a couple times at home now.
Have you tried it out already, what did you think? Or, will you be trying it soon? Be sure to come back and tell us your thoughts on it!
