It’s been a crazy day, and it seems like everyone got up on the wrong side of the bed. Come the afternoon and everyone is at their wits end. The kids are acting up during the time many houses know as “the witching hour”, and all you want to do is get dinner made. You know that as soon as you get food into those hangry kiddos things will calm down for a bit.
I’ll be honest, I am not above using a show on Netflix to distract my kids when I need a few minutes. Whether those few minutes are needed to get dinner, put away groceries, or even just escape to the bathroom because you haven’t had a chance to go all day.
I’ve got several go to shows that have become favourites of my oldest daughter, and my youngest well… she just loves all the songs, bright colours, and movement in some of them. I’ll take it though! These are what I pull up on Netflix to get those precious, needed minutes in the day.
Here are our top shows…
Justin Time is all about a kid, Justin, and his imaginary friends Squidgy and Olive. They get up to all sorts of adventures travelling around the world. This show teaches kids about nature, and different cultures. It also teaches about many different life lessons. I may be slightly biased about loving this show because it is also a Canadian animated series. When watching this show your child will see Justin dealing with an every day problem, for example sharing. Justin then ends up somewhere in the world with Squidgy. They always meet up with Olive, who lives in the place and time they are visiting in Justin’s imagination. Together they deal with the problem Justin is facing, and they learn what is the best way to handle it.
Sarah & Duck left me a bit confused at first with talking clouds, and purses. There is even a turtle with a window in its shell. Sarah is a 7 year old girl, and her best friend Duck, who is well… a mallard. This show quickly wins the whole family over, and will have you quacking a long to the theme song in no time. This is another show all about the adventures these two get up to… from baking a cake, to finding the perfect pair of shoes that do not make noise on hardwood floors.
Super Why is new to me, my husband was the one that introduced it to our oldest. The main character is Wyatt, and a long with all of his pals, the Super Readers, they solve different problems. Now how do they go about solving problems? They do so with the help of different stories. Wyatt connects the problem they are dealing with, to the problem in the story. Since starting to watch this show I have heard my daughter singing the theme song, and showing much more interest in the letters of the alphabet.
This one you would only know about if you do not have any kids in your life. It has taken over all stores that sell toys, and was part of every kids wish list for Christmas last year. PAW Patrol is about Ryder, and his group of Pups. Together they make up PAW Patrol, a team that works together to protect, and help out everyone who lives in Adventure Bay. It helps if you think of Ryder as being like a young Batman as it’s the only way to explain how he has so many gadgets, and vehicles.
The next time you need a few minutes, consider putting on one of these shows on Netflix.

I like to call this “Netflix babysitter”:) I use it often! Haha

It’s a handy babysitter… always on call when needed.

Lately my boys have been in to the Magic School Bus and The Cat In the Hat. Those are good learning ones that I don’t feel too vast a lit letting them watch a bit more of.
But the LEGO ones get requested often too. π
discoveryparent says
Love the Magic School Bus, sadly Evie hasn’t found a love for it yet. Is it sad that I will watch it myself?

We love King Julians show and my son watches the Penguins of Madagascar Movie on an almost daily basis. Streaming has made parenting a heck of a lot easier for us!

I haven’t had to use Netflix for parenting yet (my little one is only 4 months old) but there have been days, especially when I was dangerously pregnant π that I used it as a teacher! And Super Why en franΓ§ais was a go-to for the primary classes!

When my first daughter was a baby (bouncer-age) a friend was over and the baby wouldn’t stop crying. My friend goes “turn on some cartoons!” I felt guilty about it and now 11 years later she’s a Netflix binge watcher. You sometimes need a minute, the tv is NOT a babysitter but it does keep them occupied with the right programming! Thanks for sharing!

We love Super Why! It’s okay for the kids to have some screen time so that you can take a breather!

We probably watch WAY more TV than we should, but Netflix is definitely awesome. I love that I can let each child pick out a show for them to watch and it’s ready when we are, if we’re 15 minutes off schedule, they aren’t missing their show.

Why is Paw Patrol not on my account. π That is a favorite here, We do watch Super Why but have not checked out the others. Thanks!

Sometimes you just need some time to prep dinner or accomplish something administrative and TV sure does help to keep the kids attention to enable mom or dad to be more efficient. Paw Patrol is a big fave here and it’s great as some of the episodes are quite short too!
