Halloween is a few nights away and we decided to start carving our pumpkins. Where there are pumpkins there are thoughts of what one can use a pumpkin for. Evie instantly went to all things Disney and requested a pumpkin coach for her “Minnierella” Tsum Tsum she has. Well, if you give a preschooler a pumpkin coach she is going to ask for to watch the movie that inspired this request… Cinderella.
Thankfully Netflix has Disney’s most recent live action Cinderella movie available to watch so we were able to meet this request. One of our favourite scenes from this version is when the Fairy Godmother (Helena Bonham Carter) appears to Cinderella (Lily James) and starts considering the items she could turn into a carriage.
Do you grow watermelons? Cantaloupe? Artichoke? Kumquat? Beef Tomato? Ahh pumpkins, this’ll be a first for me. Always interesting. I don’t usually work with squashes. Too mushy… Hello my strangely orange vegetable friend.”
The whole movie is just beautifully done. I love that Disney brought back a classic, reinvented it and now there is a new generation growing up with a love for dreaming big. The cast portrays all of the characters impeccably. After watching it you won’t be able to imagine anyone else taking part in this film, especially Cate Blanchett as Lady Tremaine. Helena Bonham Carter’s rendition of the Fairy Godmother brings comedic relief and imperfections to her character.
Evie loves watching Cinderella both for the story and for the beautiful dresses. Each time she watches it she tells us which dress she loves the most. *hint it’s whichever one is on the screen at the time* Plus the glass slippers that Cinderella wears are stunning. Now if only one could truly wear such gorgeous shoes without getting a blister or breaking a heel.
If you are looking for something to watch this Halloween as a family and have a house full of those who can appreciate a good fairytale consider watching Cinderella. The movie does have pumpkins in it and costumes!
Now I am off to try and finish carving Cinderella’s castle into our pumpkin before Halloween night. Does anyone have a magic wand I could borrow, or have the Fairy Godmother’s phone number I could call so that she can bippity boppity boo it to being completed?
