It’s that time of year when the fields are full of pumpkins and kids are on a mission to find the perfect one to take home. We went out to Abbotsford to visit Maan Farms and Fall on the Farm. Since we were going on the weekend we made sure to book our ticket time early in the morning. We find the earlier you arrive on the weekends the better. It meant the pumpkin patch area wasn’t overly crowded, so we went over there first.
OPEN FIELD COMPLETE WITH PUMPKIN HOUSE
This year the pumpkins were organized row by row and even in a path leading up to the pumpkin house. Yes, this pumpkin patch is complete with a pumpkin house. It’s a great little spot to get a photo. The weather has been unusually warm this time of year so there was no need to put on boots for going through the field. It was dry, so no fear of mud on everyone’s shoes.
The kids loved the different tractors set up in the field. They’re perfect for kids who love vehicles. Our kids played on every single one of them. There’s also a giant chair that’s another fun photo spot. I had no idea they had this and instantly wished I had the kids in their Halloween costumes because it’s such a cute spot. Next year! Next year I will be prepared and bring their costumes.
If you only want to go into the pumpkin patch and get some cute photos of your kids its $5 during the week day and $6 on the weekend. Why the cost? Well, farmers need to take care of their property and things happen. This also helps prevent a huge swarm of people flooding the field. It’s also been tough for farms the last few years with not being able to host special events through the seasons like this.
GO EARLY OR DURING DURING THE WEEKDAY
There are a couple reasons we suggest this. We prefer the weekeday as there is a slight decrease in ticket rates, especially if you go on a Tuesday. We get it, things like going to local farms can add up very fast. So any way to save a bit we highly recommend. Previsouly we’ve gone right after school during the week and spent several hours there right before bedtime. It wasn’t overly busy and the kids got all their energy out right before bedtime.
Otherwise, if you can only make it on a weekend, try to go for first thing at opening. This made such a difference to our visit this time. We were able to wander the pumpkin patch, get some cute photos, but then go over to the other side of Maan Farm and the kids got to play without it being overly crowded. Our older two loved that they could go on the zipline again and again with no long wait. It wasn’t until around noon when we left that things were getting really busy there. By then our kids had their fill and were ready to go home. Plus it was nap time for our younger two. It worked out really well.
THE FOOD KEEPS BRINGING US BACK
The food at Maan Farm is by far our favourite out of any pumpkin patch. It keeps bringing us back again and again. This year they are serving up naan tacos on the menu. Theres a butter chicke and a chickpea option. Both are ridiculously good. I don’t know what the green sauce was on top, but yum! The butter chicken is always a favourite, so in taco form wrapped in naan you really can’t go wrong.
The kids loved the cute little pumpkin sippers filled with apple juice. Do be careful though at we realized the hard way that the lids twist very easily. We ended up getting a straw for our youngest daughter to avoid a mishap. She knows not to tip with a straw. The little sippy cups are so cute. But, if they had to pick a favourite it was defiitely the double pumpkin spice cream with a ginger molasses cookie and whip cream on top. It’s served in a little pumpkin which just makes it extra special. Those ginger molasses cookies thought are something else. If we could buy a bag of them we would. Please Maan Farms, put these on sale next fall in your store.
