Tomorrow is New Year’s Eve, many of us are looking back on 2016 and everything that was part of it. This year has had a lot of ups and downs for us. Thankfully, there were lots of wonderful memories made that go beyond the negative moments of the year. I wanted to take a look back on the year and share some of my favourite photos, the top blog posts, and our top Instagram photos.
I’ve seen a common theme with the end of 2016 amongst many of my friends and fellow bloggers who have shared about their year and plans for the New Year… that we shouldn’t be waiting til the new year for a new beginning. It’s no secret that I’ve really struggled this year, it’s been very hard a lot of the time. I’m right there with everyone who is wanting 2016 to end. Really though I don’t need to wait for 2017 to start to work on myself, my family, my marriage, and so much more. I can start any time. I can start now. I started a long time ago.
I’ve also been reminded a lot this year that “you cannot pour from an empty cup”. It’s really obvious that you cannot. How can I give anything from myself if I feel like I am running on empty? I can’t, it’s just not possible. Self-care has become a big thing, you see the word all over lately. It’s nothing new. It’s taking those 5 minutes to have a mommy time out when you feel like your about to lose it. Getting to read a book, go for a walk, or go and get your hair cut and coloured. It’s taking care of yourself so that your cup is full. I’ve been working on that a lot this past year to try and make sure I am not running on empty anymore.
We’ve grown a lot as a family this year. We’ve travelled and explored together. I can only hope and pray that many more memories are made together. Thank you for sharing in our adventure with us. It still boggles our minds whenever someone who follows our blog or Instagram stops to say hi to us and mentions that they follow the blog or Instagram. It means a lot to us, we are so thankful for everyone who is a part of the Discovering Parenthood community.
We hope you all have a fantastic start to the New Year spent with the ones you love.

Yes, 2016 has had ups and downs … maybe more downs this year for some. It is so important to take care of yourself, and really though to do as a mom. I hope your 2017 is wonderful!! Happy New Year!

Great look back! I agree: self-care is HUGE, and I’m learning just how important it is to take care of my physical, mental, emotional health especially as my children get older. Here’s to a wonderful year ahead for you and your family!
