This past weekend we went on the search for snow. We’re a bit sad seeing our Facebook memories pop up filled with photos of snow in years past, but there has been nothing so far. We decided to head to the mountains to try and finds some snow to play in.
We started our journey later than we normally would because we recently switched the girls gymnastics day and time. It was still okay because we wanted this to just be a fun outing together. We knew our first destination was going to be the Sea to Sky Gondola. Last year we got a pass thanks to their annual pass sale, which is on again btw. Do the math, for us, it works out best to get the family pass.
We love going up the Sea to Sky Gondola this time of year, sadly there was only a dusting of snow on the ground in some places. We had lunch, which we had been looking forward to as normally its a favourite for us. This time though, we were less than impressed. So far this adventure had no snow and bad food, but we were still having fun.
There is a little trail you can walk that is covered in lights and decorations. There are also new elk cutout decorations over by another train, one even looks like Rudolph. It’s little touches like this that we love when we visit this time of year. Plus, some weekends Santa is up there and you can have a pancake breakfast… next time we are aiming to be there for breakfast.
As we headed back down in the gondola we asked the girls if they wanted to continue looking for more snow? They are just like their mom with their love for snow and immediately said yes. We decided to keep driving to Whistler and see if the snow had arrived there.
By the time we got there, everyone was hungry again. There is one restaurant that we go to every time where we can get meals for $6. The food has always been good, we’ve yet to be disappointed. Everyone filled up and warmed up. Though we could have done without the super loud music, it did bring back the teenage years for both Jason and I with them playing the likes of Sum 41 and Billy Talent.
After dinner, we walked around the village a little and as if it were on cue, the snow started to fall from the night sky. Smiles crossed all our faces as the girls enjoyed a cookie and watched people skating. We have all agreed that we’ll have to visit the mountains again soon because since our little road trip the snow has continued to fall!
