This whole summer, we had heard nothing but really good things about the Otter Co-op Outdoor Experience in Langley. We were finally able to get tickets to be able to go this weekend. It was a great way to wrap up our summer. Our time there left us wishing that we had been able to go multiple times over the summer. We will definitely be back!
WHAT IS THE COST?
This is what really got our attention, the cost. Currently, the admission fees are as follows: 0-3 years old are free, children 4-12 years old are $4.85, youth 13-18 years old are $6.23, adults 19-59 years old are $9.85, seniors 60-79 years old are $7.49, and super seniors 80+ are $1. This means that it cost us $29.40 + tax as a family of 5. This is an awesome deal when we think about how it would have cost us over $150 to go to the local water slides on a weekend.
WHAT IS THERE TO DO?
The place is divided into different areas. You have the Pacific Zone with a 25 m pool, leisure pool, and hot tub under a huge canopy. The Roller Soakers waterslides with two tube slides and one body slide. Breaker Bay tidal pool is where you want to go when you hear the buzzer go alerting that the waves are about to start. Canyon Creek river channel with spray features and tipping buckets is a great lazy river to keep riding round and round in. There is also the Big Top splash pad which is great for younger guests with its waterslides and plenty of water play features.
NO WONDER SO MANY HAVE ENJOYED GOING HERE
Apparently, we lucked out with the crowd size on the day we visited. This place has been very busy throughout the summer. Hearing from friends who have gone on the more crowded days, they have all said they still really enjoyed their visit and they ended up going multiple times over the summer. There truly is something for everyone here.
We waited in line about 30 minutes before our time slot, and the older kids went and played in the Pacific Park which is a little playground in the perfect spot to keep kids busy during the wait. Once we were able to enter we went right to the back and got a spot on the grass to set up as a home base. We laid out a blanket and put up a little shade tent. We left valuable elsewhere, but there are some small lockers available currently for wallets. The older kids took off immediately to The Big Top. This section reminded them of Pirates Cove at the Cultus Lake Waterslides. There are 4 different slides in this area alone and a large dumping bucket. We could have stayed in this section the whole time, but with it being our first time they quickly realized there was a lot more to check out.
THE FAVOURITE SLIDE
The Roller Soakers was the big hit. With the older two both being above the needed height they had a great time grabbing a single tube, or pairing up and going on a double and heading down the tube slides. It was great for us as parents because we were able to watch them from the bottom make their way up and come back down. The red slide, which is called the Lava Tube, was the overall favourite with its rainbow of colours that shine through as you go down the slide.
IF YOU PLAN TO GO SOON
The hours of operation page still shows a few more dates of fun for September. If you are looking for something fun to do, definitely consider going. Non-township of Langley residents can register for tickets to the park 72 hours ahead of the session they want. If you live in the township, you can register with four-day priority. We had so much fun that we’re debating booking in for another visit, even if it is raining. A couple of the pools are definitely warm and the hot tube would definitely warm you up if it was chilly out.
There are no “in and out” privileges, so when you go in you want to make sure you have everything you need with you. Once you leave, you are not going back in.
You can bring in your own water and food. Highly recommend doing this, especially if your time slot goes over lunch or dinner time. all that swimming and playing will make everyone hungry. We went with a blanket, but you can also bring your own chairs in right now as picnic tables and lounge chairs are not available.
When you get there, go get your spot on the Beachside Green and go over rules and expectations with your kids. Make sure they know where the base is just in case you get separated or they are old enough to go do their own thing.
You will want to arrive ready to swim, but change rooms and washrooms are available. We ended up giving ourselves 20 minutes before ending time to make sure we had rounded everything up and were able to go get showered and changed. This gave us more than enough time. Change rooms are actually not open until the last 30 minutes of your time slot anyways.
Have fun! You will be busy during your whole time slot. We would have loved to have maybe another hour to our time as that would have been perfect to fit a few more runs down the slide.
