Our middle daughter is in Kindergarten this year. Her first experience in elementary school. Sadly, Covid-19 is taking away a lot of fun things and memories. For now, it looks like no field trips are happening which meant no field trip to the pumpkin patch in October. Some schools were able to book to have the pumpkin patch come to them, but not every school could do this. So, we had our own “field trip” to the pumpkin patch at Aldo Acres.
We had to book our tickets online and pick our date and time we wanted to go. The whole farm had all sorts of precautions in place; markers for 6 feet apart, signage to remind about social distancing, masks were needed in certain areas, etc… There was hand sanitizer available all over the place and I really appreciated that only a certain number were allowed into the barns at a time. If anything, this was the most organized I’ve seen it and I liked that.
Technically, it was also our youngest’s first time to the farm and pumpkin patch, but she slept the whole time we were there! When we parked she had fallen asleep on the car ride there. I put on my Beluga Baby wrap and popped her in. I swear those wraps are covered in magical sleep dust because she had a great sleep and had no clue that we were even there. But, she’s in the photos!
The girls went on a mission to find a small pumpkin for their little sister. We already had larger pumpkins at home. They loved climbing on the round bales of hay and trying to jump from one to another. Seeing all of the animals is always a highlight. The baby pigs were a favourite as our one daughter declared that she needed more hands to pat them all.
We made sure to book our tickets for the last two hours the farm was open as you could only visit for 2 hour time slots. We wanted to get to see the goat run. First thing in the morning and then in the evening when the farm closes the goats go from and to the barn. They know exactly what to do and are guided by one of the farm dogs. It’s a lot of fun to see this stampede of goats go by.
While things may be different this year, our girls still had a great time at the farm and pumpkin patch. Our kindergartener got her “field trip”. Now, bring on a Halloween.
