Traveling with children who need bottles can feel intimidating. There can be so much you need to pack and bring with you… all the pieces for the bottles, formula, formula dispenser for the diaper bag, bottle brush, and soap, etc. Add in the need for bottles that your kids like and that also help with any tummy issues and you can find yourself on a wild hunt to find a bottle that meets your needs. We recently put Philips Avent Bottles to use with our youngest and even took them on vacation with us.
TAKING PHILIPS AVENT BOTTLES ON A FAMILY VACATION
When it comes to bottles for both of my girls I needed ones that addressed problems that come with having reflux. My girls would become incredibly upset after having a bottle until I found ones that worked to help combat their tummy issues. Most recently I was introduced to Philips Avent anti-colic baby bottles. I was intrigued by the fact that these bottles have been clinically proven to reduce colic and discomfort. Babies who have been fed with them have experienced less fussing at night than babies fed with other brand’s vented bottle.
The valves on the Philips Avent bottles are to send air into the bottle and away from the baby’s tummy to help reduce air from being ingested. The air ingestion is what can cause colic, burping, spit-up, and a general sense of discomfort for the child. Reducing this should mean a happier baby. At 1 year of age my daughter still, takes a bottle and still can have issues with fussiness and gas in her tummy causing her to need to be burped to get that air out. I wanted to see if these bottles would help her with this.
We put the bottles to use right away and even put them to the ultimate test by bringing them on our most recent family vacation. The bottles only have 4 pieces which are great because often bottles of this type come with multiple pieces which meant more to clean. I appreciated the wide neck of the bottle right away as this made it easy to fill and easy to clean.
The bottles came with a stage 2 flow nipple which was too slow for my daughter I popped into the store and easily found the fast flow, stage 4 in a two pack. Once I had these my daughter had no issues using the bottles. It was interesting because I could hear the air flow as she had her bottles. This was the twin-valve system at work making sure air goes into the bottle and not into baby’s tummy.
After using the bottle for the first time there was no need for me to burp my daughter, she was happy as could be. Fluke? Nope. Time and time again upon using the bottle she was full from her bottle and not fussy at all. This was a sign of success for me when it comes to the claims of Philips Avent Anti-Colic Bottles.
TAKING BOTTLES ON VACATION
I made sure to bring enough bottles to make it through one day before we needed to clean them. For my daughter, this meant we needed three bottles. One for in the morning, before nap time, and before bedtime. If your child still needs more, pack more. It makes things easier to just have to wash bottles once.
The bottles are wide necked and wide in shape, they fit perfectly into the pockets of my diaper bag. Making it easy to store them for our travels. I would prep one to three bottles (depending on how long we were going to be out) and bring a portable formula container with pre-measured formula sections. Each bottle had water inside ready to go. I never once had an issue with the bottle leaking in my diaper bag.
When you are traveling, I highly recommend that you check that a kettle is available to boil water both for cleaning purposes and to ensure you have water you can use with formula. would clean the sink with boiled water and soap and then go about cleaning the bottles.
I would clean the sink with boiled water and soap and then go about cleaning the bottles. Prepare a clean surface to place the bottles for drying overnight. These bottles proved to be easy to clean even in a hotel room. I made sure to bring what was needed to clean them with. Pack a bottle brush and the soap you like to use for cleaning bottles. I often put the soap into a small container because you do not need much and this takes up less room when packing.
Don’t let bottle feeding stop you from going on a family vacation. So long as you can get clean water and be able to boil it as directed for formula feeding, you’ll be good to go. I am really liking Philips Avent Bottles especially because they mean my daughter is happy and not fussy after having her bottle. That is the most important thing to me. Oh gosh! Where were these bottles when I was feeding my first born?! My son got such bad colic from feeding! I always packed a full bottle of soap whenever we would go on trips. Lol! I wish I only “brought what I needed”! It would’ve saved space… and my sanity.
