The cold weather has rolled in thanks to a wind warning. It’s making it feel much more like the holidays. Now if only the snowfall they had called for would actually arrive. My weather app now says no snow, just sunny and cold. To try and bring some smiles to faces, we went out and got our Christmas tree. We had been going back and forth with using our fake tree or if we wanted to get a real one. In the end, a real tree won for this year.
WHAT TYPE OF REAL TREE TO GET?
I have been on the hunt for a certain tree for a long time. My Dad has all these photos from his childhood of what the Christmas tree looked like for his family. There were large gaps between the rows of branches. Big enough to hang ornaments no problem. Plus lots of tinsel. An amazing amount of tinsel. I’ve been trying to figure out what type of tree it is and the closest I could figure is an Alpine Fir. Sadly, finding one of these types has been pretty much impossible.
The next type of tree that was recommended to us was a Noble fir or a Nordmann Fir. Both of these had the sort of branches we were looking for. A Nordmann Fir caught out eye. It was at the side and had no tag yet. Bonus is that the Nordmann has a subtle fragrance, which is great for my allergies! Technically, I am allergic to all types of pine trees.
GETTING THE TREE HOME
I am so thankful that the local nursery we got our Christmas tree from included wrapping the tree and help to get it on the car. Maybe they saw that I was on my own with the girls and took pity on me. They were incredibly kind and helpful.
My biggest fear was that the tree would not be tied securely enough and it would roll off the top of the car. I’ve heard stories of this happening. Some had suggested jamming it into the car between the kids, but I didn’t feel that was a safe option. Plus, we cannot put the middle of their row of seats down. I don’t think I would have done as great of a job tying the tree down as the employee who helped us.
Now we wait for the tree to acclimate to the temperatures indoors. It’s currently in our garage. We also need to dig out our tree stand and get some Christmas lights for it. All of our lights are currently at our church for decorating there. It’s also up for debate about if we’ll use just baubles, or if we’ll put up the Hallmark ornaments too?
DO YOU HAVE A FAKE TREE YOU USE EACH YEAR OR DO YOU GET A REAL TREE?
