We just got back from an incredible weekend getaway to Summerland Waterfront Resort. It was a much needed time away, that has made us fall in love with Summerland. As soon as we walked in the doors upon getting home Evie was asking “Mom, can we go back to the place with the warm tub, and the hot tub?”… more on that in another post. First up I wanted to share with you all about the resort which simply put is absolutely gorgeous!
For a minute, or two we were not sure if we were in the right area because the roads curve all over the place. The resort is tucked into a lake front neighbourhood, and is pretty central to a lot of places in the Okanagan.
Upon check in the staff were incredible. We had emailed beforehand asking about if checking in early was an option, and to confirm that there would be a pack-n-play in the suite. Our suite wasn’t ready just yet when we first arrived, but the front desk staff confirmed my phone number, and said they would call as soon as it was ready. Going to Summerland with two little girls, we had our fingers crossed we’d be able to put them down for a nap when we arrived. We headed down the road to the walking pier to stretch our legs, and then we went to a local coffee shop. Within 40 minutes our room was ready, and we could not thank them enough.
Walking into the suite for the first time we right away noticed how modern everything was. There was beautiful flooring, bright colours, and so much more. It is definitely one of the most spectacular suites we have ever stayed in. We were staying in a two bedroom suite, there are also one bedroom, and studio suites available at Summerland Waterfront Resort.
We were surprised to learn that each suite has a fireplace, kitchen, and outdoor space of either a patio or balcony. From there though each suite is different, no two are exactly the same when it comes to how they have been decorated, and furnished. While they may run in the same colour theme, fabrics, and more are different.
As a family with two young kids whenever we do go on vacation and book a hotel we always give preference to places with one or two bedroom suites, and have a kitchen. These are must have options for us. It is nice to be able to put the girls to bed in a separate room, but not have to call it a night for ourselves at 7pm. We also love being able to prepare, and cook our own meals. We felt like we had walked into a smaller version of our home.
There was one thing I loved about the bathrooms, and need to figure out how to make it happen in our own at home. There was under lighting in each one, that was under the sink and counter space. It was motion activated! How brilliant is that? With a preschooler who does not like the dark, and couldn’t reach the light switch on her own, this was a total game changer. Plus there was no need for the main light to be turned on in the middle of the night, and wake up our 6 month old.
Dear Summerland Waterfront Resort… please tell me how you made this happen!
The resort has a large geothermal pool that our oldest daughter never wanted to leave from. She loved getting to go swimming each day with her Dad, and I enjoyed staying pool side in one of the lounge chairs on the wrap around deck. There are also two hot tubs at the resort, one at each building. That’s correct, the resort is made up of two buildings that are only a couple dozen footsteps away from each other. Both the pool, and the hot tubs overlook the lake making them spectacular places to watch the sunset, or have your kids get out all of their energy before bed.
You are only steps away from the beach too. There is a bit of sandy area that you can put a chair, while your kids play in the sand, or in the water. My favourite though was the private pier that you can walk out on, and look for fish swimming in the water. Come the busy summer season there are boats, paddle boards, kayaks and more available to rent. If it had been available while we were there my husband would have been out on the water on a seadoo.
My husband spent some time in the fitness room, and was pleased with the variety of workout equipment available to be used. There is a little bit of everything with cardio equipment, free weights, and more. If you love going for walks, skip the treadmill and go walking a long the boardwalk and shoreline path.
Summer season to us means barbecuing dinner. Each building has barbecues available for resort guests to use. One grill space is surrounded by greenery, the other has a view right out to the lake. There are grocery stores a short drive from the resort, so you can easily pick up something to toss on the grill for dinner.
What about breakfast time? If you are not wanting to make breakfast yourself, there is a Bistro near the hotel lobby. We enjoyed fresh made panini, muffins, and cinnamon buns each morning. We also got yogurt parfait, tea, and orange juice. We were able to bring everything back to our hotel room and enjoy breakfast outside on the balcony.
Summerland Waterfront Resort really does have something for everyone. If you are thinking about a staycation, or looking for a place to stay in Summerland give this resort a look. You will love your stay there.
We fell in love with this place as soon as we realized there was in suite laundry! Anyone with kids understands how incredible this is to have when traveling. It means no laundry mountain when you get home. I warn you, you will be sad when you have to check out. You will not want to leave this resort.
