lelem’ Cafe

We love finding new places to go to and relax as a family. The girls get to enjoy a treat while Jason and I relax and have a coffee or tea, and maybe just maybe get to enjoy a hot meal. Our most recent favourite place to go to is lelem’ in Fort Langley. It’s also the place I most recently went to do some blog work and catch up on things.
lelem’ means home in the henqeminem language. It’s the perfect name for this cafeé in Fort Langley because it does have a very homey feel when you go there. From the giant white cups that your hot beverage is served in, to the large fire place. Plus all the wood and stone touches, it’s warm and welcoming inside. lelem’ is the perfect place to gather with family and friends if you’re wanting to get out of the house but still have a great place to relax.
If we are pondering where to go, or what to do as a family, we often find ourselves in Fort Langley at lelem’. We love that we can grab a meal or some snacks and a great cup of coffee or tea. I cannot recommend the chai latte enough. Evie always loves looking in the display at all the different baked goods and picking out exactly what she wants. It’s been something different every time. Which is rare in itself because normally if she sees a cookie, that’s it she wants a cookie. Not here, she’s tried all sorts of goodies.
I really appreciate that a lot of items offered at lelem’ have been sourced locally, from the meat to the coffee that is served. One thing we love as a family is supporting local! You really cannot go wrong with bread and soups that are made in house. Honestly, you’ll want to stand at the counter and just watch as food and drinks are prepared for those who have ordered them.
As I mentioned, I recently escaped here all by myself… that’s right, I was kidless, to do some blog work. It was wonderful! I was able to order a marvellous cup of chai tea and some eggs benedict to eat for brunch. I was given a wooden number and was able to go get a table in the back of the cafe where I set up for a chunk of the morning. My eggs benedict and drink were brought to me once they were ready.
I was thankful for the delivery of my food and beverage, I don’t know about you, but I get a bit worried when I go out by myself, more so a bit anxious. I start to worry about all the “what if” scenarios… what if I need to get up and go get my items, what happens if I leave my laptop and bag here… the list goes on and on. With everything being brought out sit-down style, I was able to calm down and get to work.
There is a long community table in the front of lelem’, as well as several smaller tables around it. If you have kids, don’t worry there are highchairs that attach to the chairs. You’ll find them hanging on the wall near the bathroom. In the back is a more tech oriented area. Outside there are a couple tables as well and come Spring and Summer the back patio is open too.
I was there to get some work done, so the back area was great for me. I was able to sit at a table and plug my laptop into an outlet when I needed it. Since I was by myself, I gladly offered up the other half of the table to other patrons of the cafe. They didn’t mind my plunking away on my computer and writing down things all over my planner. I loved that the fireplace was roaring away inside because it was freezing cold outside. There’s just something comforting about a fireplace.
It was the most work I’ve gotten completed all at once when sitting down to do some blog work. I actually felt organised and relax. It has been awhile since I felt like that. I left the cafe texting my husband that maybe this should become a monthly thing for me. That one Saturday each month I disappear to lelem’ and get as much work done as possible in a couple hours.
My idea was “kind of” shot down, only for the fact that Jason wants to bring the girls next time for brunch and then go adventuring with them. We will definitely be back to lelem’ again soon for some of our favourite drinks and food items. We all love that we’ve found a cafe that fits our needs as a family. If you’ve never been, I strongly encourage you to go next time you are in Fort Langley.
