With a baby comes lots, and lots of diapers, and wipes. Of course with this is also the potential for some serious stink. So how do you control the poop? Playtex Diaper Genie Elite has got you covered.
When both of our girls were newborns we used disposables, and ended up going through at least 10 disposable diapers a day. It adds up fast. Thankfully we were given a Diaper Genie as a baby shower gift, and we love it! We have used it ever day since our oldest was born, and it is being used still with our youngest. It’s proven to be the perfect disposal system for diapers and wipes.
Playtex has recently upgraded the design of the Diaper Genie Elite, and one of the fun changes is that it is now available in white, pink, gray, and blue! The shape, and design itself has been modified too. We recently had the opportunity to try one out. Don’t worry, the ease of use when it comes to the Diaper Genie is still there!
The Diaper Genie Elite diaper pail helps to seal away odours while compacting all the diapers into one area for disposal. It really is brilliant. Instead of having an open garbage pail, you have this closed in system that involves the liner refills and the outer casing of the pail.
It took me just a couple minutes to remove it from the box, and get it assembled. Snapping the two main pieces together took a little bit of force, but once you hear them click together it’s good to go for attaching the third piece which is the front tilt pail door. Yes, that’s right, there is now an easy access tilt door. Unlike the previous model where you had to open the pail and fight with it to wiggle the refill liners out, often causing the top portion to flip back and slam against the wall or down onto the floor. Now you just open the tilt door, to pull out the full refill liners. It makes for much easier access to empty the pail.
For the previous model you could buy a carbon filter that attached to the lid with double sided tape, now the carbon filter holder is part of the design of the lid. You just slip in the carbon filter, and replace when needed. This is something I really like about the Diaper Genie is it having this filter. I do find it makes a difference in filtering the smell of the dirty diapers it contains inside. You will know if, and when you need to replace it. The carbon filter contains activated carbon that locks in the odour molecules. There is no masking the odours with fragrances. The filter works ,and makes a difference.
As mentioned the ease of use is still there, and it’s part of why I love this disposal system. All I have to do to open the pail, is step on the foot pedal at the base and it opens the double-lock and lid so that I can put the soiled diaper, and dirty wipes into it. Then just release the foot pedal and it closes and the everything goes inside the main compartment of the pail. The double-lock design is another line of defense to trap any odours that may be there, inside.
If you’ve never seen a Diaper Genie before, you may be wondering what makes the bag on the inside of the pail. As mentioned there are the refill liners. These come in a blue package, that is a ring shape. Inside is the 7-layer film, which also works in helping to lock in odour. You remove the seal on the package, and then pull out the film. Tie a knot at the end of this and push it through the middle of the ring. You then open your Diaper Genie pail and place the ring into it, and let the film you pulled out (about a foot to 2 feet) and tied into a knot at the end to fall into the pail system. This holds, and collects all the diapers in once place. When it comes time to empty the pail because it’s full. Push the button on the tilt door, pull the full film out, it will basically look like a full bag, and cut the film a the top on the cutter that is inside the disposal system. Everything is all in one place to keep things simple. No need to bring scissors with you when changing out the full pail.
