I have been “rockin’ the mom bun” since the day my daughter was born. My hair went up into a messy bun while in labor. There was no way I was going to be having glamorous hair and makeup at that moment in time, and I was okay with that. There were much more important things going on.
While some may not be a fan of the mom bun, it doesn’t phase me. You see I rarely have the opportunity to get to go and get my hair cut. I also went the route of getting a mom hair cut last summer. I had well over 12 inches of my hair cut off, and I donated it all. I sadly do not have the time I once did to style, curl, or even take a straightening iron to my hair. The majority of the time my hair goes into a ponytail, or a bun or some sort.
The mom bun really is my go to hairstyle now. On any given day my hair may be twirled back into a hair elastic that I am praying doesn’t kick it and break. There may be a sock rolled into the bun to create a voluminous sock bun… oh Pinterest, you brilliant thing you to teach me this trick. Though now I am much more sophisticated and use this weird sponge like thing that my daughter calls the donut. I can also backcomb my ponytail quickly and fold it into a fan bun in seconds, add in a few hairpins and I am good to go for the day. Being extremely busy with work, and chasing a toddler when I get home tossing my hair up into a top knot is really the best option for me.
I will be continuing to wear my mom bun with pride, because it is intentional and sometimes I have put a bit of effort into making the bun look nice. I can take this look from sweatpants to Sunday best… so don’t mess with me and my mom bun.
Fellow mama’s out there, how do you style your hair when you are in a hurry?

My go-to is usually a French braid. I often do pony tails but because my hair is curly it usually just makes me feel frizzy around my face. A french braid tames that a bit more.
I have to say I get jealous of straight hair styles sometimes!

I’ve always loved your curls! My hair is a little bit crazy it does it’s own thing. Some days its straight, other days its waves, and some its curls with major frizz…. think Monica from friends.
I love a good french braid too! Always an easy, quick look.

I haven’t tried the fan bun, and I can’t get my donut to cooperate for me, so I stick with the messy bun look. I either do a french braid, bun, ponytail or a twist. On the days I wash my hair I will occasionally leave it down. Until the summer comes, then it will always be contained somehow. 🙂
