Going out to eat at a restaurant is a very special treat. It can also be a bit stressful when you go out with kids in tow. We’re always worried that they may be too loud or in some way bothersome to others. Thankfully, there are some restaurants where we just always feel welcomed right away. Rocky Mountain Flatbread is one of those places. Now, there is finally a location closer to home for us in South Surrey! We were invited to check it out recently.
FAMILY FRIENDLY RESTAURANT
Our kids love when we get to go out somewhere special to eat, Rocky Mountain Flatbread is a favourite of theirs. I’ll always remember the girls getting to take part in a pizza-making party and how little they were. There is something for everyone on the menu there and it’s wonderful how family-friendly they are. The new location in South Surrey was no different.
We went right for opening one day to try and beat the lunch rush. The South Surrey location is tucked in behind a few other buildings in the complex, but the layout of this one is very different from other Rocky Mountain Flatbread locations. It’s got a modern feel with lots of raw wood and greenery. A major highlight is the large garage doors that the staff opened up. It allowed a gentle breeze to flow through the restaurant.
Our crew loved how bright it was as soon as we went in and it didn’t feel crowded. Which meant, our kids had room to be kids all while sitting at a table. Parents, you know what I mean… the never-ending dropping of crayons on the floor while colouring for example. Plus, there are even some vegetable stuffies that kids can play with while waiting for their meals.
PIZZA, PASTA, AND SO MUCH MORE
There is definitely something for everyone with there being pizza, pasta, and so much more. The girls figured out what they wanted to eat right away. They each had a kids three-course meal. Sharing a Shirley-Temple to drink and a veggie monster bowl to start. We would love to see the olives in the veggie bowl subbed out for celery or a different vegetable that kids for sure enjoy. That’s our one suggestion for Rocky Mountain Flatbread. For their main course, the girls had a mozza pizza with pepperoni and creamy macaroni and cheese. Having the kids share meant they both had options for eating.
For the adults, we decided to share too! We couldn’t pass up the pasta special that we spotted on the board when we were seated. We also created our own flatbread to enjoy. It had tomato sauce, mozzarella, spinach, lemon pesto chicken and parmesan. All of the pizzas are fantastic, we loved having the option to be able to create our own with all of our favourites on it.
DON’T FORGET ABOUT DESSERT
The girls enjoyed some ice cream that came with their kid’s meals. One had vanilla and the other chocolate. It was perfect for cooling down on the hot summer day. My husband hadn’t tried the gluten-free baked cheesecake before, so he went for that. I decided to get the warm double chocolate brownie to go. The desserts are fantastic! While I cannot eat the base of the cheesecake as it contains coconut, the main part of the cheesecake is fantastic.
Why did I take the brownie to go? It is my favourite dessert from Rocky Mountain and I wanted to be able to enjoy it back at home, in peace, when the girls were finally in bed. It did not disappoint! It comes with ice cream and a lovely berry sauce.
PS: You could even just order your whole meal, including dessert for takeout to enjoy for a date night in!
Everything was so good at Rocky Mountain Flatbread. The atmosphere. The food. The location. Our kids are already asking if they can go back here. Which is definitely a sign that they enjoyed their meal and time there. We will for sure be back and are happy to have a restaurant with great food for the whole family nearby.
