When children make the switch to a booster seat they have to meet certain requirements. Our oldest had to wait awhile before she was tall enough and weighed enough to go in one. She was not ready when Kindergarten rolled around. Now that she does we have been looking into all of our options for booster seats, especially for family travel. It wasn’t long before we came across the mifold Grab-and-Go Booster.
You cannot miss how compact the mifold is compared to other booster seats, it’s 10x smaller! This instantly got my attention, especially when I started thinking about how much this could help with travel if we were going somewhere by plane and didn’t have room for a large booster. It also had potential to make taking a booster to school much easier. Let’s not forget the potential for fitting three children across the bench seat of a vehicle.
mifold does not lift your child up like a traditional booster seat. Instead, it holds the seat belt where it needs to be. The belt is on the hip bones of your child. The belt is on the shoulder and off the face and neck area. The belt is also off the delicate stomach area. It’s a unique design and idea for keeping kids safe that meet the age and height for a booster.
I knew right away that the mifold was going to find a permanent spot in our car. Even if it’s not in use it’s stored in our vehicle just in case there’s a last minute play date planned. You just never know when another seat will be needed and we want to know everyone is safe.
The mifold is for use on children ages 4 – 12 years. The child should also be between 40 – 100 lbs and 40” to 57” in height. I do encourage you to read the instructions in the manual carefully and have them with you when you are first figuring out how to use the mifold. You could even look into having the assistance of a car seat tech to further guide you in the proper use and installation of the mifold.
The first few times we spent figuring out the mifold were intimidating, I’ll be completely honest. Here are the steps we went through when installing because I wanted to know that the install and fit were correct.
- Ensure that you have the correct width selected for the seat base when it comes to the size of your child. The first few times we even used a measuring tape to double check.
- With the mifold unfolded and flat, place it against the back of the car seat and the base of the seat.
- Have the child sit down and check that the seat does not move around from the front to back. Their back should be snug against the back of the vehicle seat.
- Pull the vehicle belt across your child and feed the lap belt through the guides on both sides of the mifold seat, buckle it into place.
- Make sure there is no slack in the vehicle shoulder belt. Pull to remove any slack from the lap portion as well. Double check that the lap belt is across the hops and in contact with the thighs of your child.
- The mifold shoulder clip attaches to the vehicle shoulder belt. It goes behind the child’s back and needs to be 1” above the top of your child’s shoulder. Again, we even used a measuring tape to double check this the first few times to ensure we were getting a proper fit.
It took us a little bit of getting used to with figuring out the mifold. As with any car seat, I feel it’s very important to read over the manual and practice using it before it’s truly needed in the vehicle. Car seats need to be used properly to ensure safety. This way everyone knows how it should be installed and used. With being more used to it now and knowing what to look for visually for a proper fit and install, we feel much more confident in using it.
The mifold will definitely be our go-to seat if we ever need something to bring during family travel. Say we go on a trip by plane and know we’ll be traveling in a taxi. The mifold can easily fit into a carry-on bag and be pulled out when needed. It eliminates the fear of a car seat being damaged because it needs to be checked-in or taken to be gate checked. My daughter did find that it is not overly comfortable for long trips, but for quick trips and field trips, it works great. The mifold is a great option for a very compact booster seat!

Now that both my boys will be in school and can safely use a booster, this would be so handy!

A cool alternative to booster seats. Something that could be handy to have when switching cars. Personally and based on your review, I think it would be more of a back up option. Long rides with an uncomfortable child is not ideal but honestly a cool alternative option!

I’ve read a number of reviews of this booster seat now and I think it’s such a great twist on the traditional booster seat. My oldest is ready to switch (even if I’m not!) and the mifold is at the top of my list.
